Eryk Makohon choreographer, dancer, teacher, stage designer, dance theorist.
He graduated from the Secondary School of Music in Cracow, in architecture from the University of Technology in Cracow; he completed qualification courses for teachers in contemporary dance and ballroom dance. He also graduated in postgraduate dance theory studies from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Founder, head, teacher and choreographer of the Cracow Dance Theatre and METAphysical Laboratory, both working at Nowa Huta Culture Centre in Cracow. Originator and art director of SPACE Contemporary Dance Festival.
In 20032005 dancer of the Silesian Dance Theatre. He took part in choreographies by Jacek Łumiński, Sylwia Hefczyńska-Lewandowska, Hilke Diemer, presented in India, the USA, Canada, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Lithuania and others. He also collaborated with W&M Physical Theatre from Canada.
As a teacher and choreographer, he has collaborated on a long-term basis with KTO Theatre, he created stage movement for Quixotage and The Blind Men, presented at numerous dance festivals all over the world. In collaboration with KTO Theatre and Royal Opera in Oslo he created stage movement for Operation Opera, presented in Poland and Norway. He created over twenty individual performances, presented in Poland and abroad. He created stage movement for Lolita Dolly by Nikola Theatre and Morality of Mrs Dulska produced by Łaźnia Nowa Theatre in Cracow.
Teacher at numerous workshops in Poland, including International Conference of Contemporary Dance in Bytom, Cracow BalletoOFF Festival and contemporary dance workshops in Kalisz. Former lecturer of Teacher Qualification Course, organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Teacher of dance composition at Artystyczna Alternatywa School in Cracow, since October 2012 he has been a lecturer at the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Cracow/ Faculty of Dance Theatre in Bytom.
Dance Theorist, author of the graduation thesis Konstantin Stanisławski, Eugenio Barba, Jerzy Grotowski. Methods of work an attempt to translate the methods into dance (the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music plans to publish the thesis as an article in the season 2012/2013). He is the author of the contemporary dance curriculum for the 1st class secondary school students, and of an education project, created and produced in collaboration with the Faculty of Comparative Civilization Studies at the Jagiellonian University.
Organiser and promoter of dance in Cracow. Originator and organizer or co-organizer of various art events and performances in collaboration with the Cracow Dance Theatre (such as HAIKU ON MOVEMENT in collaboration with Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology and DF Dance Theatre; International Dance Day and Dance Nights at Groteska Theatre, performances for the Nights of Theatres, SPACE Contemporary Dance Festival).
As the choreographer of the Cracow Dance Theatre, he produced over twenty performances, including the recent ones: The woman in the dunes, Coroner, I am a human being, Metaphysical duos, Cinderella, Existences, The ballad on silence, The Seventh wife of the Eighth, The Smoke, Anacoluthon, TAKARAZUKA Camp, Blonde. I Try, Quatriga for THREE.
The Cracow Dance Theatre is the winner of several prestigious awards (including the first prize of the Tychy Dance Festival). They represented Poland at some important art events abroad, such as the Biennale of the European and Mediterranean Artists in Bari, Italy.
Makohon is the president of the Cracow Dance Theatre Association which is an extension of education and art activities of the Theatre. The association is the co-organizer of SPACE Contemporary Dance Festival and the chorography competition for young artists 3…2…1…DANCE, as well as the producer of the Theatre’s performances.
