Hanna Strzemiecka– founder, former choreographer and artistic director of the Lublin Dance Theatre (since 2006) and Contemporary Dance Group at the Lublin University of Technology (GTWPL) (since 2005).
She graduated from the Lublin University of Technology (1979). In the late 60’s and early 70’s she dance in the Social Ballet Center in Lublin. In the 80’s she participated in contemporary dance workshops in the Centre for Culture Promotion (CAK) in Warsaw. Then, in 1988–1990, she was in the USA where she learnt innovative methods of contemporary dancing and various forms of movement and dance theatre. After her return to Poland, she used her experience, working in student artistic movement in Lublin.
Multi-award winner for her choreographies created for Contemporary Dance Group at the Lublin University of Technology (GTWPL): Puste ulice – special award for choreography at the 4th IV International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz (1996 ); W tej anizotropii po prostu byliśmy – individual award for instructor and choreographer at the 6th International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz (1998), Głosy (with Ryszard Kalinowski) – 1st Award at the 7th International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz (1999); Godziny, lata… – award at the International Festival of Student Theatre in Monastir (Tunisia, 2000).
She is an author of the Lublin Dance Theatre choreographies: Optical Treaty (2001), Akrobaci, kwiaty i księżyc pomiędzy (2002), plepleJAdy (2004), Snooker (work in progress version, 2005).
Originator and for many years director of the International Dance Theatres Festival in Lublin. Organizer and co-founder of local, national and international art and educational events, such as “Chagall w Lublinie” Festival (2003). He was a dance teacher and juror of numerous festivals and contemporary dance competitions in Poland and abroad.
He received several awards, including Silver Badge of Merit to Culture (1985), Award from the President of the City of Lublin for lifetime achievements in culture (in season 1997/1998), a Certificate of Merit from Minister of Culture and National Heritage for promotion of dance art (2001), Theatre Award from the President of the City of Lublin for outstanding art achievements with the Lublin Dance Theatre and the Lublin University of Technology Contemporary Dance Group (2003) and award from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for lifetime art achievements (2010).
