Katarzyna Skawińska – choreographer (theatre, film) and teacher of contemporary, founder of DF Dance Thetare, president of DF Dance Theatre Association. She graduated in cultural and education pedagogy and postgraduate culture management programme from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. She gained her first experience in dance in Cracow, in KONTRAST Dance Theatre of Jacek Tomasik, in a group of Professor Janina Strzembosz, a student of Isadora Duncan and in the school of Ruth Page in Chicago.
In 1990 she founded DF Dance Theatre for which she created around forty own dance performances. Her choreographies won many awards at dance festival in Poland and abroad. As a choreographer, she is open to collaboration with artists representing various forms of art.
As a teacher, Skawińska has collaborated with many centres in Poland, by teaching contemporary dance technique and composition for dancers, actors, dance instructors at courses and workshops. She is also the author of many education/art projects. A co-founder and the vice-president of Polish Contemporary Dance Association in Bytom; a co-founder of Art and Artistic Education Association; a member of International Dance Council-CID UNESCO (since 2004); the artistic director of International Summer Dance School in Koszęcin.
She has also collaborated with many culture institutions, among others: Groteska (Grotesque) Puppet, Mask & Actor Theatre, Nowa Huta Community Centre, Art and Artistic Education Association, Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble, Mazovia Centre of Culture and Arts, Song and Dance Ensemble of the University of Warsaw WARSZAWIANKA.
She received a Medal of the Commission of National Education (KEN) for her teaching and artistic work and an award from the Mayor of Cracow.
