Krystyna Mazurówna is a dancer, choreographer and writer.

She studied dance at the Zygmunt Dabrowski and Teresa Dobrowolska Ballet School, and then at the State Secondary Ballet School in Warsaw.

After graduation from ballet school in 1957, she took a job at the Opera House (Grand Theater) in Warsaw, where she danced in such productions as: Don Juan (1958), Ballet Night to the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (Boy, 1958), Ballet Night to the music of Claude Debussy (Nymph, 1958), Ballet Night to the music of Igor Stravinsky (Street Dancer, 1958), Mr. Twardowski (The Temptress, Lust, Cleopatra, Houri, She-Devil IV, 1959), Wierchy (Highlander Woman, 1962), Judith (Slave Girl, 1962), The Rite of Spring (Girl, 1962), Four Temperaments (Girl, 1962), The Three-Cornered Hat (Girl, 1962), White-Haired Woman (Resident of the Golden Land, 1962), Orpheus (Bacchante, 1963), Daphnis and Chloe (Bryaxis, 1963), Ad hominem: A ballet impression (Girl B, 1964).

As part of an artistic scholarship, she studied modern and jazz dance in Paris.

In the early 1960s, she began performing in the Polish Dance Ensemble led by Eugeniusz Papliński. She participated in the company’s performances in the USSR. She also danced in Love Sonnets (Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, 1963) and in the performance When in the Botanic Garden (Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, 1963).

In addition, she appeared in several music videos (set to the song Kochać by Piotr Szczepanik) and films: Estrada 62 (1962), Subtenant (1966), Marriage of Convenience (1966), Masquerade (1967), Phantoms (1967), Adventure with a Song (1968).

Her stage partners included: Witold Gruca, Stanislaw Szymanski, Gerard Wilk.

She also worked with Warsaw’s Buffo Theater “Syrena” as a dancer (Other Times, or 20 Years Later, 1966) and as a choreographer (Seance for Lovers, 1965; Other Times, or 20 Years Later, 1966; Emil and the Detectives, 1966).

Krystyna Mazurówna has created dance and movement arrangements for: The Jewish Theater, the Contemporary Theater in Warsaw, the Mazovian Land Theater in Warsaw (Three White Arrows, 1966), the Polish Theater (Feedback 1966), the Dramatic Theater in Warsaw (Spaghetti and Sword, 1967), the Juliusz Osterwa Theater in Gorzów Wielkopolski (The Trumpeters, 1967; The Troubles of Robber Madej, 1967), the Stefan Jaracz Theater in Łódź (You Won’t Forget Those Days, 1968), Helena Modrzejewska Theater in Cracow (My Daughter, 1967), the Łódź Grand Theatre (Blue Castle, 1988), the Music Theater of Gdynia (Ballet, Ballet, Ballet, 1988), and the Polish Dance Theater – Poznań Ballet (Chopin inaczej, 2010).

She choreographed and directed in the ballet/movement performance Mr. Instrument presents: a grand invention for a thirsty theorbo, a dormant double bass and four dancers (2011), staged by Old Brewery New Dance in Poznań. She also choreographed The Merry Widow, produced by MMImpresario Artistic Impresario (2015).

She also created the choreography for The Soldier of the Queen of Madagascar (Polish Television Theater, 1967).

She founded the contemporary dance company Fantom, with whom she successfully performed at a jazz festival in Prague. She choreographed ballets set to music by Matuszkiewicz, Trzaskowski, Kurylewicz and Komeda. However, in 1968 the company was disbanded and Mazurówna left Poland.

Since 1968, she has lived and worked in Paris. There she founded the Ballet Mazurowna ensemble, with whom she has performed in France. She worked abroad as a dancer until 2001, performing as a soloist at the Casino de Paris, at the Josephine Baker revue and at Artistotelis Onasis’ private club in Athens. As a choreographer, she collaborated with the Élysées Montmartre theater in Paris.

Third Prize at the 1st National Classical Dance Competition in Warsaw (1959).

Third Prize at the 2nd National Stage Dance Competition in Warsaw (1961)

Jan Kiepura Theater Music Award for lifetime achievements (2013)
