The 6th edition of the 3…2…1…DANCE! choreographic competition attracted 46 submissions, including solos, duets and trios from Austria, Britain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Uganda.
After considering all the submitted pieces, the organisers qualified 13 works for the competition:

“On This Thin Ice”, chor. Agnieszka Borkowska;
“Homogemonia”, chor. Ewelina Drzał-Fiałkiewicz;
“MAT-X”, chor. Štěpána Mancová and Klára Ešnerová;
“A Voice of Our Common Madness”, chor. Jolanda Löllmann;
“A Step Toward”, chor. Enrico Paglialunga and Ilaria Chiusolo;
“Pagan Poetry”, chor. Yohan Zeitoun;
“Talk to Me”, chor. Paweł Zaufal;
“5dm3” chor. Anna Kamińska and Patryk Durski;
“Symptoma”, chor. Fabian Fejdasz;
“Syrenada”, chor. Zofia Tomczyk and Krystyna Szydłowska;
“I’m a Wife and I’m Scorned”, chor. Malcolm Sutherland;
“Inner Place”, chor. Dominika Wiak.
The commission decided to distinguish these works, taking into account:
– composition of the whole piece;
– consistency of chosen elements such as music, costumes, aesthetic and artistic means;
– technical level of dancers and their expressiveness;- uniqueness of movement language and choreography values.
This year the jury includes Karolina Garbacik, Leszek Bzdyl and Jos Baker. Each of the judges will award two financial prizes, and the total prize pool is EUR 1,650. Another jury member, Krakow Choreographic Centre Director Agata Moląg, will award prizes in the form of workshops at the SPACER Contemporary Dance Festival, sponsored by the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre. In addition, an audience award will be introduced this year.
This year?s expanded edition will include a four-day intensive dance workshop run by jury members Jos Baker (a freelancer collaborating with the renowned companies Peeping Tom and DV8) and Leszek Bzdyl (founder of Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre, actor, dancer, initially linked with the Henryk Tomaszewski Wrocław Mime Theatre).
Presentation of artists who have qualified for the competition will be held on Saturday 12 March at 5 pm in Studio KCC. On Sunday 13 March at 6 pm, an evening of winners will begin, combined with the premiere performance of Around Centre Group?s “Mourners” choreographed by Agata Moląg.
