We are glad to inform that after the premiere of Cool Fireby the Baltic Dance Theatre on Saturday, 23 February, Izadora Weiss received from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage – represented that evening by the head of provincial executive, Mr Mieczysław Struk – Poland’s highest merit awarded to men and women of art: the Gloria Artis Medal.
Izadora Weiss– the art director of the Baltic Dance Theatre. She graduated from the Warsaw Ballet School and Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She was twice awarded a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Art. After graduating from the ballet school, she was engaged by the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and she studied ballet pedagogy. As a choreographer she debuted in 1997 with A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Grand Theatre in Poznań. After creating choreography to Krzysztof Penderecki’s First Violin Concert in the Grand Theatre in Poznań, Jiri Kylian invited her to Nederlands Dans Theater for a choreographic internship. After returning to Poland, she created choreography to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in Nigel Kennedy’s interpretation, at Malta 2000. She collaborated with the most important Polish opera directors. Since 2005 Izadora Weiss has been regularly creating her original choreographies; in 2010 she started working with the Baltic Dance Theatre, set up at that time in Gdańsk in place of the Baltic Opera Ballet.
