Following the summer break, the artistic ensembles of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz commenced the preparations for the upcoming premieres, Karol Szymanowski?s Stabat Mater and Harnasie, which the Bydgoszcz theater will present for the first time in its sixty-year history. Both performances will be choreographed by Robert Bondara, esteemed artist whose earlier collaborations with Opera Nova include his 2011 ballet The Captive Mind, inspired by Czesław Miłosz?s essay.
Maciej Figas has been appointed the musical director of the premiere; Henryk Wierzchoń will be in charge of the choir preparations; stage design will be contributed by Julia Skrzynecka.
The works of Szymanowski, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, have been selected for the ceremonious premiere on 22 October 2016, which will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Polish opera in Bydgoszcz. The event is organized under the honorary auspices of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
So far, presentations of Szymanowski?s works at Opera Nova have been staged by guest companies, among others as part of the Bydgoszcz Opera Festival (King Roger by Warsaw?s Teatr Wielki ? Opera Narodowa, Hagith bythe Wrocław Opera, and Lottery for a Husband by the Kraków Opera).
Ticket sales for the premieres at Opera Nova start on 10 September.
