Peter Pleyer will show The Ponderosa Trilogy on Saturday, 16 May (7 pm) at the Old Brewery in Poznań (Studio Słodownia +3, ul. Półwiejska 42). The piece consists of combined solo works that were conceived and premiered at the performance marathon at Ponderosa TanzLand Festival in Stolzenhagen, Germany during the past years. The Ponderosa Trilogy Peter Pleyer interweaves major strands of his performance interests, from crocheting, dance-improvisation, queer theory, a.i.d.s.-activism and writing into a tapestry of stories and situations. The piece is done in sections, reminiscent of a collage in which motifs are patched together creating a whole that incorporates audience participation in direct speech and asking for help by performing certain actions.
The focus is on the personal, there is a book here and there, a text, a dance, and costumes. Some of the music will reference to gay artists from the past. Techniques of new shamanic actions will link that past with the future.
concept and performance: Peter Pleyer
Peter Pleyer studied dance at the European Dance Development Centre at Art Academy in Arnhem (Netherlands). He worked as a dancer and choreographic assistant with Yoshiko Chuma (New York) and Mark Tompkins (Paris). Peter choreographes his own dances (a.o. participant at the choreography competition in Groningen). In 2000 Peter moved to Berlin. With a big interest in the theoretical studies of dance and dancemaking, he is frequently asked to supervise and coach performance projects in Germany and Sweden, with a focus on new methods in dance training and composition where improvisation plays an essential role. He has shown Choreographing books, his lecture/installation at the Old Brewery in Poznań.
