The Vienna International Dance Festival ImPulsTanz starts on 11 July, to last until 11 August 2013. Europe’s biggest dance festival celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. ImPulsTanz attracts to Vienna the latest works, from Bach to Schönberg to opera to club culture. The best choreographers are the festival’s long-time participants: Mathilde Monnier, Marie Chouinard, Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez and Meg Stuart.
This year Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Boris Charmatz will perform a duo set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach played live on the stage of the Burgtheater by violinist Amandine Bayer. British choreographer Akram Khan will present both his famous solo DESH and his latest collective work iTMOi, drawing inspiration from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring (Le sacre du printemps), which premiered 100 years ago. Jérôme Bel and Pichet Klunchun will participate in the project Occupy the Museum, while the younger generation of choreographers will be represented by Ivo Dimchev, Philipp Gehmacher, Doris Uhlich and Silke Grabinger showcasing world premieres and special performances of their works.
ImPulsTanz is not only about on-stage events – it is also an invitation to dance extended to the audience. In the evenings in the hall of the Burgtheater will turn into dance floor and during the day 200 workshops in different dance styles are awaiting participants.
