The Centre for Contemporary Art – Ujazdowski Castle (CSW), FOUNDATION f.o.r.t.e.and the Burdąg Foundation have invited a group of emerging choreographers to create each a choreographic etude inspired by and set to one of Witold Lutosławski’s pieces.

The etudes will be presented publically on Sunday, 15 September (8 pm) at CSW’s Laboratorium hall in Warsaw, during the LUTOSFERY art series. The choreographers participating in the project are Przemek Kamiński, Maciej Kuźmiński, Weronika Pelczyńska, Magdalena Przybysz,Michał Ratajski, Paweł Sakowicz and Ula Zerek. Dancing parts will be performed by:Adrian Bartczak, Barbara Bujakowska, Przemek Kamiński, Maciej Kuźmiński, Sara Kozłowska, Weronika Pelczyńska, Maciej Rumian, Paweł Sakowicz, Ula Zerek.

The aim of the project was obviously to celebrate the anniversary of the great composer’s birthday this year. The participants were selected by way of an open call, which generated 24 applications, followed by an audition, which narrowed down the list to seven choreographers. They were assigned the task to find a new, original relation between music and movement. In August they took part in week-long workshops, exploring relations between music and dance in the context of contemporary choreography, conducted by Maria Stokłosa in the Burdąg facility in the Mazury Lake District, Poland. The workshops were to serve as a starting point for the choreographers’ individual work.
