On 7-8 September 2013 the Impart Festival Office in Wrocław will host a new project, Dance [R]Evolution Festival. The event, presented as part of the Laboratory of Movement [Laboratorium Ruchu] – European Capital of Culture 2016, will offer two days of intense interaction with dance, served in the form of performances, workshops and discussions. The festival will feature a competition of 10 dance pieces presented by professionals, amateurs, adults and children. Participants will also be offered workshops of modern, hip hop, funky, or jazz dance. On the programme, there are also theoretical panels and discussions on directing, creating theatrical genres, dancer’s stage presence, and key issues faced by amateur dance in the region of Dolny Śląsk.
Apart from stimulating young dancers’ interest in the art of dance or shaping their aesthetic and artistic sensitivity, DRF aims to provide them with a possibility to showcase their work in a professional setting and obtain feedback from dance authorities. The jury of the Dance [R]Evolution Festival will include noted Polish and international dancers and dance teachers: Sylwia Hefczyńska-Lewandowska (Bytom), dancer of the Polish Dance Theatre, lecturer at the Dance Department of the Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków, choreographer of Polish and international contemporary dance pieces; Maciej Florek (Gdańsk), dancer, choreographer, qualified instructor of physical recreation, collaborator in a range of European projects and dance workshops, member of the Board of the Polish Contemporary Dance Association (PSTW); and Alassane Watt, dancer and choreographer, who performed at Ballets Noirs De Paris, Loews Monte-Carlo, Moulin Rouge, Ballet Paris Montmartre, Black Machine Tournee Mondiale.
The festival’s main organiser is the ARTEO Association, a young but dynamics non-governmental organisation, whose different projects and events aim to stimulate development and promotion of dance in Wrocław and the region of Dolny Śląsk. ARTEO may already boast such successful festivals and art competitions as Freestyle Arena, Polish National Winter Dance Meetings, DRF – Edition 1, Moja Pasja competition and Be Creative.
The festival’s co-organisers are the Impart 2016 Festival Office and the Institute of Music and Dance. The event is part of the Laboratory of Movement – European Capital of Culture 2016. The organisers hope that the festival becomes a flagship dance event of Wrocław and Dolny Śląsk and a permanent fixture in the region’s cultural calendar. The project answers the need to release the artistic and cultural potential lying in the cultural heritage and present artistic life of Dolny Śląsk.
