Gdańsk/ “Residency/Premiere 2018”: Veronika Akopova, Nora Le Guen, Nina Josse – “Flying Bodies Across the Fields”

22 April 2018 | 19:00 | ŻAK Club | Gdansk | Premiere

performance presentation

As part of the Residency/Premiere 2018 cycle, Klub Żak will present a new piece by Veronika Akopova, Nora Le Guen and Nina Josse, developed in collaboration with Gwyn Emberton as part of the 10th Gdańsk Dance Festival.

The piece has been inspired by the language of bees, and the movement relates to the dynamics of flower petals and their relations with insects. Incidental music will include sounds from the inside of a hive, and the stage will be host to an actual bee drone. Flying Bodies Across the Fields touches upon ecological matters and provokes one to reconsider the role of humans in the world where pollinator drones will have replaced bees as creators, pollinators and sustainers of numerous species.

Over the last few years the population of bees has declined considerably. No bees means no plants, no food, and therefore no humans. In order to save the planet the researchers have invented pollinator drones to replace the real bees. "Flying bodies across the fields" tries to question this tension between organic and robotics, exploring body algorithms in floral aesthetics.
The creational function is until now inherently human. What is the place of the human being in a world where drones take responsibility for the primary process of creation?
