Anna Piotrowska choreographer, director, contemporary dance teacher, dancer, founder and president of the Dance Development Foundation eferte, founder of the mufmi dance theatre in Warsaw (formerly known as the Dystans Dance Theatre, est. 1995). She has created over 90 original choreographies and performances. Since September 2014 she has been the director of the Bytom Dance and Movement Theatre ROZBARK (where she has also served as the artistic director since 2015). She has collaborated with the Israeli-Dutch choreographic duo Ivgi & Greben. She is the founder and coordinator of a number of Polish and international educational and cultural programme: PolemiQi, Atak przestrzeni, Kierunek.(Europa_Warszawa).taniec, SoloDuo_Polska, laboratorium choreografii, British 4 Polish Dance, among others. A laureate of the SoloDuo Dance Festival in Budapest (2005/06), and its multiple juror, she was also awarded the British Council Award in 2004 for the Young Polish Arts Entrepreneur. A dance theatre producer, she sits on the jury of Dolina Kreatywna (a television programme produced by TVP2), assessing dance and culture animation projects. Anna Piotrowska has given guest performances at numerous festivals, including the Gramigna Festival in Palermo (2007), International Poesifestival in Stockholm (2007), Nu Dance Fest in Bratislava (2007/08), Fabriaktionen in Berlin (2008), Working Title Festival in Brussels (2008), and has repeatedly appeared at the International Contemporary Dance Conference and the Dance Art Festival in Bytom, the SoloDuo Dance Festival in Budapest (2005-2012), the International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz (main prize 2007), and the International Dance Theatres Festival in Lublin.
Anna Piotrowska has contributed choreographies to a number of dramatic theatres, among others in Szczecin, Zielona Góra, Poznań, Kraków, Warsaw, Białystok and Legnica. She has worked with such directors as Paweł Kamza, Michał Siegoczyński, Artur Tyszkiewicz. She has also choreographed for the K3 puppet theatre in Białystok.
She is the author of two original productions for the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań: farfalla and 6 x 9 (both premiered in 2008).
Anna Piotrowska was the guest of the advancing performing arts project (APAP) in 2008, where she created a solo piece Look 4 faces, which has since been presented in Bytom, Warsaw, Berlin and Brussels.
She is the author of several international performances, including: Walk_2_corner, HUG (Hungary), Laka la Mnija in the field of half of sth, Cold Fish (Norway), CoCo_Klimt (Slovakia), or Clitoris Landscape (close to gate No. 5) (Italy).
She regularly collaborates with the Silesian Dance Theatre. She also works at the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Cracow, Dance Theatre Department in Bytom, where she has taught such courses as dance theatre forms and choreographic structures, improvisation, improvised scenes, and contemporary dance.
In 2013, Anna Piotrowska supervised the diploma piece TRANSDYPTYK (TRANSDIPTYCH) staged by the students of the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Cracow, Dance Theatre Department in Bytom. In 2014, she created the piece Historia brzydoty (The History of Ugliness) for the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre. The year also saw the premiere of her then-latest piece, i dont wanna be a horse, produced as part of the international project Recording Fields tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf. The production featured dancers affiliated with the Bytom Dance and Movement Theatre ROZBARK.
In September 2015, Anna Piotrowskas piece, performed by Łukasz Pawłowski, toniejestpostawartystyczna! czyli premiery nie będzie! (this is not an artistic attitude! or there will be no premiere!) won the Grand Prix at the 13th National Review of Contemporary Monodrama in Warsaw and the Main Prize at the 3rd Koszalin Days of Monodrama.
In April 2016 Anna Piotrowska was awarded the theatre prize of the Silesian Province, Golden Mask 2015, in the special prize category for directing and choreographing performances produced by the Bytom Dance and Movement Theatre ROZBARK.
