On 19 February 2014Poland’s culture minister Bogdan Zdrojewski officially awarded the Young Poland [Młoda Polska] scholarships to 85 emerging artists who have displayed outstanding merit in their respective fields: film, photography, literature, music, visual arts, dance, and theatre. Five scholarships were awarded to dance artists. Two will support new productions: Aleksandra Borys’choreographic project Movementscape and Karol Miękina’sdance theatre piece Homo Religiosus. Three other will be used to pay for tuition at foreign dance schools: thanks to them Lena Obłuska and Stanisław Węgrzyn will attend the Miami City Ballet School’s training programme, while Agnieszka Pędziwiatr will study at the Anton Bruckner Universität in Linz, Austria. The gala took place at Krasiński Palace in Warsaw.

The Young Poland scholarship programme of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage supports artists under 35 years of age who have displayed remarkable artistic merit and whose applications are considered of the highest artistic or substantive value. The awarding process is competitive. The scholarships may be used to develop an artist’s own project, buy instruments or other equipment necessary to continue creative production, or to cover the costs of professional training or artistic residency abroad. The programme has been in operation since 2004, and benefits around 70 young artists each year.
