Melissa Monteros and Wojciech Mochniej (W&M Physical Theatre) are pleased to invite everyone to a cyclical Polish showcase presented as part of the Pro Series Festival at the University of Calgary (Canada). On 26-27 January 2018 at 8 pm at Matthews Theatre (210 University Ct NW, AB T2N 4V8) Maciej Kuźmiński will show 2 pieces: Difference and Dominique (performed by Dominik Więcek). Dominique has been awarded with numerous prizes and honourable mentions in Poland and abroad, including: 1st Prize (EUR 2,000), the Critics? Award, and the special Aleksander Izailovski Award for ?inventive artistic voice.?; 2nd Award and Scapino Production Award at the 30th International Choreographic Competition in Hannover, Germany (2016); Audience First Choice & Audience Final Choice Awards at the 20th Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival in Stuttgart, Germany (2016); 2nd Award & Audience Award at the Solo Dance Contest in Gdańsk, Poland (2015); 1st AWARD at the Warsaw Dance Platform 2015 at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warszaw, Poland; Finalist of the International Choreographic Competition MASH 2015 in Jerusalem, Israel; Honourable Mention at the Open Stage competition in Tarnów, Poland, and Monodrama Festival in Koszalin, Poland (both 2015).

Difference gives an intimate insight into the imaginary world of an individual re-defining his own self. ?Identity does not begin, nor does it end?, says a voice quoting Deleuze, as choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński searches for an independent artistic and movement style. This self-performed dance monodrama stuns with the beauty of its set and lighting design, created by visual artist Michał Mackiewicz and recreated by Calgary?s Steve Isom.

Dominique

?The word feminism needs to be reclaimed in a way that is inclusive of men.?

Dominique is a coherent and well-thought-out performance that carefully and often humorously analyses the concepts of manhood and womanhood, their liquid and arbitrary nature.

Mirosław Baran

Dominique is a powerful political and social statement marked by consistency in all respects, from movement composition and means of stage expression to the selection of performer. Presented in a multi-dimensional way, it also appeals to non-professional audiences.

Hanna Raszewska
