Cracovia Danza Residency: Adam McKinneys Kazimir nasz ślad [Kazimir our trace]

On Tuesday, 11 July (7 pm), Cracovia Danza and Adam McKinney will take to the stage at the Nowy Theatre in Cracow (ul. Krakowska 41) to perform Kazimir ? nasz ślad [Kazimir ? our trace], a piece about Jewish identity.The presentation culminates the American artist?s residency with Cracovia Danza and a several days? workshop he held for the company?s dancers earlier in July.

Adam McKinney is an American artist of Polish descent. McKinney?s residency in Poland has been devoted to his project HaMapah/The Map, a multimedia dance piece created in collaboration with Daniel Banks and Laura Bustillos under the name DNAWORKS. The project touches upon the notion of identity, referring to McKinney?s Jewish and African roots, while also striving to establish dialogue with his contemporary audience. Excerpts from the new piece will be presented in the second part of the night, preceded by ruminations on the factors which shaped the evolution of Jewish identity. Cracovia Danza will dance the story of the legendary Esther and king Casimir the Great, who first granted Polish Jews with basic rights, including trade rights and freedom of religion. The piece will also include a visit to the 19^th century Kazimierz, featuring Jewish dances and music.  

Apart from the workshops and joint presentation, Adam McKinney?s residency at the ?Cracovia Danza? Court Ballet also includes the preparation of choreography for Brunetki, blondynki…, which the Company will present at this year?s edition of the Jan Kiepura Festival in Krynica-Zdrój (14 August, 4 pm, Stary Dom Zdrojowy).
