On 2-3 November the Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk (Malarnia Stage, ul. Św. Ducha 2) will host the premiere of a choreography created by Spanish artist Roberto Olivan for the Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre in association with Katarzyna Chmielewska. Enclave 4/7 was produced as part of the programme Choreographic Commissions of the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw, and features: Adrian Bartczak, Sebastian Flegiel, Ilona Gumowska, Tatiana Kamieniecka, Piotr Stanek, Katarzyna Ustowska, Urszula Zerek.

From the creators of the Dada Theatre:

“The Dada von Bzdülöw Theatrehas long been planning to produce a performance together with Roberto Olivan, Spanish choreographer and director, and the company’s friend. Ever since Katarzyna Chmielewska participated in Roberto’sNATURAL STRANGE DAYS, the artists have been in touch, keeping an eye on each other’s artistic activity. This let them find a common language and aligning artistic conceptions and views on dance and theatre. Roberto Olivan’s works are surprisingly close to the pieces presented by the Dada Theatre. Both Roberto and Dada construct internally diverse productions whose dramatic structure seems to be loose, but whose choreographic language is always based on dancers’ acting improvisation worked out during workshop sessions.”

Roberto Olivanabout the piece:

“This creation, made in large part thanks to dancers, or from the material that dancers’ bodies themselves are, has set itself a very distinct goal from the very beginning of the creative process, which was to give dancers a challenge, both of physical and emotional character. Often, it is a man’s natural tendency to strive for security and avoid confrontation with painful and unpleasant situations. This is the breeding ground for our fears. And, making this unconscious duck, we miss the occasion to discover and experience anything unexpectedly positive. Getting to know these mechanisms, finding out why they occur and what consequences they bring makes it possible to make choices with full determination. By the end of the creative process we will perhaps conclude that the mightiest enemy of our actions is who we are. Looking at yourself in the mirror and meeting this discovery’s eye will lead us to the outcome of the creative process: a work full of risk, humanity and a multitude of questions which everyone must answer by him or herself, facing up to the enemies they encounter.”
