Iwo Vedral to direct Wieczór boski [Divine Night] at the Polish Dance Theatre

The Polish Dance Theatre ? directors, artists-dancers, curators ? has selected the winning concept in the final stage of the nationwide competition Wieczór boski [Divine Night] for a premiere piece as part of The Year of Gods at the Polish Dance Theatre. The winning proposal, No more tears, was submitted by Iwo Vedral (director), Krystyna Lama Szydłowska (choreographer), and Dawid Dąbrowski (music), who bring together the seemingly incompatible worlds of religion and economics.

Iwo Vedral is a theatre director, graduate of the Faculty of Polish at the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Faculty of Theatre Studies at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw, and the Faculty of Drama Direction at the National Academy of Theatre Arts in Cracow. His collaborations include Stary Teatr and Nowy Theatre in Cracow, Dramatyczny Theatre in Wałbrzych, Dramatyczny Theatre in Białystok, and the Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk. He directed Michał Kmiecik?s The Death of an Employee at the Polski Theatre in Poznań. His interpretation of Daniel Odija?s The Street at the Witkacy Nowy Theatre in Słupsk was awarded the Special Prize of the Marshal of the Pomorskie Province (2016).

Vedral will now collaborate with the Poznań-based choreographer and performer Krystyna Lama Szydłowska, whose pieces explore alternative means of communications and relations with the audience. The music for No more tears will be composed by Dawid Dąbrowski, a theatre composer and music producer, active in improvisational music and electronics. The costumes will be designed by Agnieszka Makutewicz, while Karolina Jacewicz will contribute the visuals. Both artists have graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Poznań.

The premiere of No more tears will take place as part of The Year of Gods, which investigates the notions of divinity, divine figures, and divine symbols. The Year of Gods is a year-long instalment of the 2016-2020 Polish Dance Theatre programme, whose slogan ?Polski/wielko-polski? aims to glorify Polish art. No more tears will premiere on 16 June 2018 at the Zamek Culture Centre in Poznań.
