Polish choreographer and educator Maciej Kuźmiński has been announced as the 2026 global winner of the Study UK Alumni Awards in the Culture, Creativity and Sport category. He is the first Polish recipient in history of the main global winner award, and also the first alumnus of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London to receive this distinction.
The Study UK Alumni Awards are an international programme of the British Council, recognising graduates of UK universities whose professional work has made a significant impact on their fields, communities and countries. Four global winners are selected from finalists from around the world, one in each award category.
Maciej Kuźmiński graduated with distinction from two programmes at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London: BA Dance Theatre in 2007 and MA Choreography in 2012. He is an internationally recognised choreographer, producer and cultural leader whose UK education shaped a career defined by artistic excellence and social engagement. His original works have been presented nearly 400 times across 27 countries and have received more than 30 awards and distinctions.
His leadership has contributed to strengthening Poland’s dance sector through the creation and direction of the Polish Dance Network, educational programmes such as Myśl Ruch Taniec, and documentary platforms including the film series Z Chaosu Sztuka. His Polish-Ukrainian project Every Minute Motherland, created in 2022, supports artists forced to leave their homes as a result of the war. Since 2009, he has been developing Dynamic Phrasing, an original method of dance and composition now taught internationally by a network of certified teachers.
The British Council award represents international recognition of Maciej Kuźmiński’s artistic achievements to date and of the impact of his work on the development of contemporary choreography and dance education.
