As part of the ?Old Brewery New Dance for Children 2017? programme, the Arts Stations Foundation will present the premiere of DOoKOŁA (aRound) (Saturday, 14 January, 11 am and 1 pm), a performative installation for families with children designed by Hanna Kanecka and Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska. The installation is intended for children aged 2-5.5. The project has been supervised by Dalija Aćin Thelander.
DOoKOŁA offers an interactive, multisensory choreographic experience to the youngest audiences and their parents. Working with objects, movement, sound and lighting, the artists encourage the audience to take to the stage, whose safe, artistic and meticulously composed space becomes an environment conducive to creative and free-flowing exploration.
The installation was created as a token of appreciation to children and their innate wisdom. In DOoKOŁA it is children who, through spontaneous action, engage adults in creative entertainment and act as guides in the world of arts. Throughout the duration of the installation, the artists aim to animate the quality of the parent-child relationship by communicating parents with their own, internal child. The installation enables adults to develop their own expression, communicate their tenderness and expand their openness to the world and the other. As such, this type of activity may translate directly into the quality of their relationship with children, since the parent as the main guide through life becomes more attentive, sensitive, responsive, confident and conscious of their own needs, and thus more tuned to the needs of their child(ren).

The project is an artistically consistent step in a long-term academic and choreographic research on artistic work with children, conducted by Kanecka and Bożek-Muszyńska. Intrigued by performing arts for young audiences, the two participated in the coaching programme organised by the Art Stations Foundation as part of the Alternative Dance Academy 2015. Several months later, the Foundation announced a competition for a performance for children aged 0-6, and chose Kanecka and Bożek-Muszyńska?s proposal in the course of the evaluation process. Their project, overseen by Dalija Aćin Thelander, one of the leading children?s theatre artists in the world (and the author of the Baby Space installation presented in Poznań), will give the two artists an opportunity to draw on Thelander?s vast knowledge and instil innovative methods of creative action. Inspired by their collaboration with Thelander, the authors of DOoKOŁA strive to creatively address the critical reflection on performing arts among the youngest audiences, thus contributing an artistic project in which dance and choreography are broadly conceived as an artistic and social experience.

Hanna Kanecka is a theatrologist, Ph.D. candidate at the Adam Mickiewicz University, and a laureate of scholarships from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the President of the Adam Mickiewicz University for outstanding academic results. She also participated in the Erasmus programme, studying at the Paris-Sorbonne University, and received a part-time scholarship with the Alternative Dance Academy 2016 (Art Stations Foundation by Grażyna Kulczyk). Her M.A. dissertation was devoted to the status of young children in pieces addressed to adult audiences; she is currently working on her doctoral dissertation, in which she examines the practice of using live animals on stage. Working with performing arts theory, and active in contemporary dance/physical theatre, her research and artistic interests involve the intersection of performance and psychoanalysis. She is the author and performer of Nie przyj (Don?t Push), a monodrama on pregnancy and motherhood; she is also a participant of a year-long course in experimental choreography ?Choreography at the Centre? organised by the Warsaw-based Centre in Motion.
Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska is a dancer, choreographer, performer, contemporary dance instructor, business coach, philologist, participant in numerous movement workshops and coaching programmes. She regularly hold workshops in contemporary dance and improvisation, as well as gymnastics classes for seniors. An author of choreographies, she actively contributes to Polish dance and performance scene. She is a recipient of scholarships from the Alternative Dance Academy (2015 and 2016) awarded by the Art Stations Foundation by Grażyna Kulczyk, and the Intensive Course w School For New Dance Development in Amsterdam (2015). Since 2007, she has collaborated with Anna Piotrowska?s ?mufmi? Theatre, where she currently works as the artistic co-ordinator and instructor. A winner of numerous prizes in choreographic and dance competitions (including the Best Solo 2014 for her solo I know ?Thing at the international Solo& Duo festival in Budapest), her works have been presented in Berlin, Budapest, Cracow, Warsaw and Vienna. As a freelancer, she has collaborated with Rebecca Lazier (There Might Be Others), Anna Godowska and Sławek Krawczyński (Bataille and the dawn of new days) and Yoshiko Chuma (Dead end ? Ponderosa).
