On Monday, 3 February (7 pm) Marysia Zimpel will premiere “s c a t t e r”, her collaboration with artist and performer Zeina Hanna and experimental musician Bryan Eubanks. The presentation comes as part of the Frive Move ZAMEK Laboratory and is taking place at the Zamek Culture Centre in Poznań (ul. Św. Marcin 80/82, Hol Balkonowy – Balcony Hall). Admission free. s c a t t e r is an open structure, it is a collection of events consisted of two solos, which coexist together in polyphony. Music creates another layer of a scattered collection. Possibilities of loosening the limits of space and body are examined through sound and movement. Meanings appear in some moments to disseminate in another.
From the choreographer:
s c a t t e rfollows up on the physical explorations I undertook in my previous pieces. When constructing movement, I focus on formal parameters: direction, level, intensity, volume, rhythm, and parameters of perception. This time I’m interested in continuity, and the possibility of coexistence in a constructed space.
Two questions accompany the piece: how does the intensity and potentiality of being transform over time, and how can maintain the continuity of presence while navigating changes of direction, intensity and perception at the same time?
The material of s c a t t e r is a product of the artists’ common practice, yet it also draws from each performer’s individual language. Importantly, the piece brings together two very different performance presences, or three – with the musician’s presence completing a trio. This way we may observe ways in which three corporal events coexist while staying fully independent at all times. The music constitutes a kind of network for the body to lean on.
Movement is an event for me, including the moment that comes directly before the movement itself.

About the authors:
Marysia Zimpelworks in the area of dance, performance and choreography, focusing on movement research and investigating limits of physicality. Her work is strongly influenced by somatic practices and choreographic improvisation of Rosalid Crisp. Zimpel studied at the Inter-University Centre forDance (HzT) (BA “Dance, Context, Choreography”) at the Berlin University of the Arts, and culture studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, earning her MA with a thesis on Praktyka tańca – ruchoma przestrzeń tworzenia siebie [Dance practice – a moving space of self-creation]. In 2009 she received the DanceWeb scholarship. She has been present on the European contemporary dance scene for a few years now, working mainly in Poznań, Berlin and Vienna. Taking part in Solo Project 2012 at the Old Brewery in Poznań, she created What do you really miss? Her pieces have been shown at the ImageTanz in Vienna (Working like a dog, an artistic collaboration), the independent festival “For the time being”in Berlin, Tanz Tage in Berlin, and Serendypia [Serendipity], a peformative showcase in Poznań.
Zimpel has collaborated with the Vienna-based performance group God’s Entertainment, Berlin’s choreographer Iabelle Schad, Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke, Rosalind Crisp and Aleksandra Borys. She curates the Serendipity festival, which in 2010 and 2011 took place in the Passage of Culture next to the Arsenał Municipal Gallery in Poznań. Together with Gaja Karolczak, she is currently developing an interdisciplinary research project titledPhantomic Sensation, as part of the Visegrad Artist Residency2013. Her PACT Zollverein 2013 residency was the starting point of the Scatter project.
Ze(i)na Hannawas born on 30 September, or 30 November, in Beirut. In spite of her fertile career in performance art and interdisciplinary education, including the MA degrees in theatre and choreography, Zeina has never managed to write a good biography. Her latest piece Never live twice – a video installation performance, was shown in Vienna, Dresden, Berlin and Sofia. She has collaborated with
Xavier Le Roy on Retrospectiveand with Sasa Asentic on Revolution won’t be performed. Her next project–Backroom anatomy– is in progress.
Bryan Eubanks(b. 1977, US) is a musician primarily active within the traditions of experimental and live electronic music. Growing up in the desert region of eastern Washington State, he was trained in analog photography before becoming musically active in Portland, Oregon in the late 1990’s. There he was part of a fertile music community. In 2011 he formed the record label Rasbliutto with Jean Paul Jenkins and Joseph Foster (operating until 2011). From 2005 to 2013 he continued to be an active musician and organizer in New York City, working most often with Andrew Lafkas, and is currently living in Berlin. He has no formal musical training and is, for the most part, an autodidact, although he received an MFA in 2012 from the Milton Avery School of the Arts at Bard College. He works with the soprano saxophone, electronics of his own design, and computer music. He improvises, composes, and is developing sound installations exploring acoustic holography.
