The pieces will be performed by PTT dancers: Andrzej Adamczak, Karina Adamczak–Kasprzak, Urszula Bernat–Jałocha, Artur Bieńkowski, Niels Claes, Adriana Cygankiewicz, Agnieszka Fertała, Katarzyna Kulmińska, Paweł Malicki, Tomasz Pomersbach, Katarzyna Rzetelska, Daniel Stryjecki and Paulina Wycichowska.

Album z tego światais a revival of a piece created by Ewa Wycichowska in 1992 together with Poznan’s outstanding artists Krzesimir Dębski (music) and Jola Załecka (costumes). The piece’s guiding motif is a poem by Stanislaw BaranczakWidokówka z tego świata[A Postcard from this World] which acts not only as a literary interpretation of the choreographic drama presented. What is equally important, the rhythm of the word present on stage is also the melody of the character’s step, gesture, or freeze. The recurring line “Wish you were here” is the sense of a private and collective confession, filled with longing for the past, a trace of memory in which the reality of the temporal world mixes with mysticism.

A day earlier, on 15 May (8 pm), the Polish Dance Theatre will celebrate the centenary of The Rite of Spring with a screening of Ewa Wycichowska’s production of The Rite staged for the first time in 1993 in cooperation with Poznan’s Teatr Wielki Orchestra under Zbigniew Graca. The 1993 premiere was broadcast live on Polish Television. In her work, Ewa Wycichowska approached the myth-making characteristic of The Rite’s music and choreography with both humbleness and courage. She studied the score for a few months, on which in retrospect, she reflected: “I became Stravinsky’s slave; I came to the conclusion that everything follows from the music and treated it with idolatry”.

After the premiere, Beata Ostojska wrote: “The Rite of Spring bears a distinct imprint of Ewa Wycichowska’s artistic personality […], she may undoubtedly consider this choreography another success. It is sophisticated, but at the same time fair and clear; abundant in decorative elements, which please the eye independently, yet impress as a cohesive whole, as well. There is some tension which triggers a strong emotional reaction in the audience: we watch the dancers breathless and with hands clutched on the arm of the seat. A beautiful show.”

(“Dziennik Łódzki”, 15.11.1993)

After the screening, the audience will have a chance to meet Anna Gruszka, remembered for her outstanding appearance in the 1993 production.
