To conclude the 23rd Łódź Ballet Festival, the renowned Teatro alla Scala will present Gala, a show composed of fragments of classical ballet works performed by the brightest starts of the Milano company to the accompaniment of the orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź under Marcelo Spaccarotella (30-31 May, 7 pm).
The history of the ballet company of the Teatro alla Scala goes back a few hundred years to the beginnings of the theatre, i.e. 1778. The ballet boast collaborations with the most prominent choreographers: Jean-Georges Noverre, Gasparo Angiolini, or Salvatore Vigan?. Since 2009 the company is led by Makhar Vaziev, who had been the director of the Kirov Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg for 15 years before. Among the artists who collaborate with the company are: Amodio, Fabrizio Monteverde, Jacopo Godani, Mauro Bigonzetti, Angelin Preljocaj, Christopher Wheeldon, and Wayne McGregor. The ballet of the Teatro alla Scala is one of the few which successfully manage to celebrate tradition and face up to the challenges of the present day, while drawing inspiration from what may come in the future.

Marcelo Spaccarotella was born in Argentina, where he studied the piano, composition, and orchestra conducting. Having completed his education, he decided to move to Italy to further develop artistically. Soon he discovered his calling: dance accompaniment. He collaborated with the ballet of the Zurich Opera and the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, among other ensembles. In 2014 he went on a tour to Kazakhstan with the ballet of Teatro alla Scala, conducting Don Quixote. Long years of working as ballet accompanist brought Spaccarotella extensive experience and deep understanding of the relations that exists between dance and music. Currently, he teaches at the academy of the Teatro alla Scala, sharing his knowledge with emerging musicians who work with ballet companies.
