The V.4 Dance Festival brings together some of the boldest dance-makers from the The Visegrád Group (V4), the cultural and political alliance of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. They come together for this rare two-day festival of Central European contemporary dance. The festival offers a satisfying and intimate sampling of the fantastical and the hypnotic, the tongue-in-cheek and the playful humdrum of everyday. The first edition of the festival will take its place on April 19 ? 20 2018 in New York and April 25 ? 26 2018 in New Orleans, US.  V4 DANCE Festival 2018 will introduce the work of choreographers Věra Ondrašíková (Czech Republic), László Fülöp (Hungary), Pawel Sakowicz (Poland) and Stanislava Vlčeková and Jozef Vlk (Slovakia). Sakowicz will present TOTAL on 19 April (9 pm) in New York and on 26 April (8:30 pm) in New Orleans.

The four works selected, while quite different one from the other, are all unlike the work being made in the U.S.  Two of the pieces ?Guide? (Ondrašíková) and ?WOW!? (Debris Company)) are technically quite sophisticated and rely on visual imagery.  The other two ?TOTAL? (Sakowicz) and Your Mother at My Door (Fülöp) incorporate text that is delivered with a kind of irony that is deceptive. The viewer may not be 100% sure whether these dancers are serious about what they?retellingus or are winkingslyly,? introduces the program Laurie Uprichard, festival´s curator.

These four works will be seen in New York at NYU?s Skirball Center and in New Orleans at the Contemporary Arts Center (where Uprichard is Senior Curator of Performing Arts). With a presence in two cities in the U.S., the project will have greater impact and the artists will be able to meet a broader range of dance students and audiences through the performances, workshops, and discussions in each location.

About Paweł Sakowicz?s piece:

Speculating on dance virtuosity implies a way of thinking which is based on experience but is not necessarily empirically verifiable. The goal of such specula- tion is to attain a particular image of dance virtuosity by means of predictable economic, political and meta-humanistic change. One characteristic feature of speculation on dance virtuosity is risk-taking in creating radical scenarios related to the politics of desires.
