The closing event and presentation will be hosted by Katarzyna Słoboda of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, who co-curated the exhibition You Come, We?ll Show You What We Do and co-edited an anthology of texts on dance improvisation released under the same title in association with the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw as part of its publishing programme.
Shadur and Smoleński devoted their residency to find and explore spaces relevant to Polish-Jewish heritage and relations. They also ran a two-day workshop for performers and contemporary dance artists on 17 and 18 July, inviting the participants to reconstruct past events that related to standing-up against violence. Together, they translated images documenting turbulent incidents from the past into different physical actions. The workshop was a reflection on the concept of repetition, while also exploring the ideas as heroism, courage, crime, investigation, and training. The participants were mainly performers, contemporary dancers, and dance theatre artists.
Konrad Smoleński has been active in visual arts and sound art for over a decade. A graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (2002), he is a member of the now legendary artistic collective Penerstwo. Over his career he also was, or still is, part of other groups, such as KOT, Kristen, and BNNT. In 2011, Konrad won the Deutsche Bank Foundation Award ?Views. His works have been shown at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Pinchuk Art Center in Kiev, Ludwig Museum in Budapest, MARTa Herford contemporary museum in Herford, Germany, Kunsthalle Winterthur in Winterthur and CentrePasquArt in Biel, Switzerland, and at New York?s Performa. In 2013 Smoleński represented Poland at the 55th International Art Exhibition in Venice. He lives and works in Warsaw and Bern.
Noa Shadur is an independent dancer, choreographer, and video artists. She graduated from the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands. Noa was awarded the first prize at the International Choreography Competition ?no ballet? in 2013, the first prize at the Vdance International Video Dance Festival (Tel Aviv, Israel), as well as the Certificate of Distinction ADF ? Dancing for the Camera (NC, USA), and the Best Film at the POOL07 Festival (Berlin, Germany). Noa was also awarded with the 2009 prize for Upcoming Choreographer from the Israeli Ministry of Culture. In 2010, she was chosen to represent Israel at the DanceWEB scholarship program, Vienna. She has been commissioned to create works for professional dance programs at ArtEZ Institute for the Arts, The ?Maslool ? Professional Dance Program’ in Tel Aviv and at the Kibbutz Ga?aton Dance Workshop. Noa regularly teaches methods of composition and choreography as part of various dance programmes, mostly in Israel. She also runs multidisciplinary workshops on the use of video in dance and convergence of art, photography and movement. She lives and works in Tel Aviv.
