The Art and Present Time Foundation and the Centre for Contemporary Art ? Ujazdowski Castle are delighted to invite everyone interested to the presentation of Scena Plastyczna KUL?s Lustro [Mirror] which will conclude the 22nd International Meeting of Live Arts ROZDROŻE/CROSSROADS 2015 (Monday-Tuesday, 9-10 November, 6 pm and 8 pm, two presentations on each night). The show will be presented at the CCA ? Ujazdowski Castle Laboratory (Wojciech Krukowski Room), ul.Jazdów 2.
In Lustro [Mirror], Leszek Mądzik continues to explore the imagination of Polish writer Bruno Schulz. Created in 2013, the piece is inspired by Schulz?s life and prose, above all his short story Loneliness (whose fragments will be read out during the performance). Live music has been composed by Piotr Klimek. In the words of its author, Lustro is ?less a reflection than a need to peer into emotions, sensitivities which solidify into obsessions, fears, fascinations or tragic fate fulfilled by the short life of Bruno Schulz?.

Leszek Mądzik?s theatre is completely original. Dispensing with the plot, Mądzik?s short performances stir the imagination and emotions of his audiences. Comprised of sequences of images accompanied by atmospheric and rhythmic incidental music, his works involve the movement of plastic forms, objects, and actors? bodies approached from a sculptor?s perspective, and extracted from darkness using pitch-perfect lighting design. All of these qualities give the viewer an impression of being in the middle of a human-made world of colliding forces of nature and fate, a world determined by transience, atrophy, and death.
Scena Plastyczna KUL is a world-renowned visual theatre founded in 1969 by its artistic director Leszek Mądzik, director, set designer, painter, art photographer. This year marks the 45th anniversary of Scena Plastyczna KUL, which has so far produced twenty premieres. Beginning with the 1972 premiere of Wieczerza [Supper], all of them have been auteur works written and directed by Mądzik, who has also worked as director and set designer with a number of other theatres in Poland, Germany, France and Portugal. Scena Plastyczna KUL has participated in over a hundred international festivals on all continents. Mądzik?s works have been presented at the Prague Quadriennale ? International Exhibition of Stage Design, as well as the world exhibition of stage design in Tokyo. Mądzik is a recipient of numerous prizes, among others at the International Experimental Theatre in Cairo, TIATF International Theatre Festival in Toyama, Japan (1992), and the A World Class AACT in Racine, USA. He has also been awarded honourable mentions at the International Exhibition of Stage Design in Prague (1983) and the 2004 TOTUS Awards, as well as the Medal for Merit to Culture ? Gloria Artis (2005). Scena Plastyczna KUL has presented its work at the Centre for Contemporary Art ? Ujazdowski Castle several times..
