On Saturday, 19 October (6 pm) Warsaw Dance Theatre[Warszawski Teatr Tańca], starring Robert Bondara as guest, is going to premiere action/CONTRaction/REactionat IMPART in Wrocław (Chamber Hall, ul. Mazowiecka 17). The piece was directed by Aleksandra Dziurosz and is set to music composed by Aldona Nawrocka.
action/CONTRaction/REaction uses the technique of contemporary dance with elements of classical ballet. Its choreographic structure reflects the bipolar relation existing between the dancers (and the continuous defining and redefining of stage space that they undertake), as well as between the dancers and music, as they use a variety of sensors to influence sounds through movement, making various alternations, modulations and transformations to the frequency, dynamics, time, and other parameters of sounds. The piece also features choreographic scenes set to music for tape. Consequently, the piece is a collage of scenes that are strictly defined in terms of music and movement and those performed in a liberamente manner. Underlying the piece’s musical and choreographic form is the notion that both of these “organisms” are complementary; what is more, in many phases they are generated in real time (generative improvisation, or improvisation générative). Starting from a purely formal conception, that is a combination, or juxtaposition, of phases that are clearly defined in terms of music and choreography and those governed by coincidence, we conclude that action/CONTRaction/REactionis a piece of continuously unique character…

Aldona Nawrockais a composer, pianist, and teacher. She graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where she had studied under Professor Marian Borkowski. She also studied at the MusikHochschule Luzern, Switzerland under Dr Bettina Skrzypczak. She attended composition classes conducted by E. Sikora, S. Montegue, A. Brødsgaard, as well as the Académie de Musique du XX-éme siéclein Paris (P. Boulez, D. Robertson), and IRCAM’sAcadémie d’Eté(B. Ferneyhough, M-A. Dalbavie). She has won a range of prizes in both Polish and international competitions, and worked as composer on interdisciplinary projects, such as Schreiben in Beromünster(Switzerland, 2005) orCoaching Project –Dancing Poznan(Poland, 2010). Nawrocka has been also collaborating for many years with a number of choreographers, including E. Wycichowska, A. Dziurosz, P. Andrzejewska, R. Bondara, composing music for ballets, e.g. Persona(Teatr Wielki, Warsaw, 2011). She composes instrumental, vocal and electroacoustic music, and her pieces have been presented in Poland and abroad. Currently, Nawrocka works as lecturer and pianist at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
Andrzej Kopećis a composer and multimedia artist. He devises interactive projects using algorithmically generated structures of symbolic, sound and visual character. He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (Warsaw), where he now teaches on computer-generated music.
Aleksandra Dziuroszis a dancer, choreographer, director, contemporary dance teacher, and founder of the Warsaw Dance Theatre [Warszawski Teatr Tańca]. She graduated from the Ballet School of Bytom, Poland (1999), obtained a diploma in ballet teaching (Academy of Music in Warsaw, 2003), and completed a post-graduate programme in dance theory at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (2007). In 2009 Dziurosz obtained her PhD in rhythmics and dance from the same university, followed by a habilitation in 2013. The performances and dance etudes she choreographed or directed have been staged at Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera (Warsaw, Poland), Teatr na Woli (Warsaw, Poland), Grand Theatre in Łódź (Poland), Baltic Opera (Gdańsk, Poland), Opera na Zamku (Szczecin, Poland), Staatstheater in Stuttgart (Germany), Dimitris Vlissidis Theater (Chania, Crete, Greece), Conservatorio Profesional de Danza (Seville, Spain), Theater X Cai (Tokyo, Japan), City Culture Hall (Iwata, Japan) and many other venues.
Warsaw Dance Theatre [Warszawski Teatr Tańca]was established in January 2008. It was founded and is now led by Aleksandra Dziurosz, choreographer, dancer and contemporary dance teacher. The theatre aims to propagate dance as a means of expression and to create a space where a dialogue with the audience is possible. The company’s productions are pieces of contemporary dance theatre displaying an interdisciplinary attitude to making art, that is constituting a novel dance form which incorporates elements of classical ballet and defies divisions between genres, techniques and styles. Aleksandra Dziurosz’ theatre is a pluralistic one: it combines dance, movement, theatre, music and visual arts. The ensemble gathers professional dancers specialising in contemporary dance and classical ballet.
