On 24?25 June 2016 at 7 pm, the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, the Lublin Dance Theatre and Centre for Culture in Lublin will host an exceptional evening presenting the Nederlands Dance Theater 2 choreographies that Polish audiences have not seen yet. The performances will be held at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin, 1 Teatralny Sq.
About NDT
The Nederlands Dans Theater is one of the world?s best known dance companies. Headquartered in The Hague and presently directed by British choreographer Paul Lightfoot, it performs in Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia. Established in 1959, this collective of rebellious pioneers of a new style in choreography has built a vast repertoire including over 600 performances created by such masters as Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, Johan Inger, Alexander Ekman, Gabriela Carrizo, Hofesh Shechter, and Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar.
NDT 2 was founded in 1978 as a branch focusing on supporting young talents. One of its goals is to teach the dancers a range of dance languages. By working with both renowned and emerging choreographers, the dancers get familiar with a range of styles and genres, with high level of dance technique serving as a tool to develop their own language of artistic expression in dance and performance.
The NDT 2 Lublin Tour programme includes five choreographies.
Schubert and Some Other Time by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, were created to mark the 25th anniversary of their artistic work. In both performances, the artists display a high level of dancing skills derived from ballet.
Edward Clug?s Mutual Comfort is a precise and detailed choreography. Clug emphasizes the dancer?s personal experience gained in the creative process aimed at discovering the internal conflicts that exist in every human. As a result, the performance surprises the audience with moments of beauty and spontaneous irony.
Hans van Manen?s Solo is a choreography for three dancers playing a single person who reflects on their place in the world. The choreography?s incredibly fast pace requires three dancers who perform alternatingly.
In Alexander Ekman?s Cacti, just like in his other pieces, music takes a very important role. In collaboration with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, he has created a new arrangement of Schubert?s Der Tod und das Mädchen. The dancers become additional instruments for the orchestra. Ekman?s choreography provokes the audience to reflect on the ways of perceiving art.
