Karolina Cichy-Szromnik a soloist of the ballet of Castle Opera in Szczecin.

 

In 2000 she graduated from the Ludomir Różycki Comprehensive Ballet School in Bytom, in Bożena Sękalas class. She is also a graduate of the Classical Philology Programme ran by the Institute of Classical Philology of the Faculty of Philology Jagiellonian University, and a certified contemporary dance instructor.

 

In 1996 she performed in Polish Television Theatres production, personating the main character in Ewa Sałużankas Diary of Feelings. She was a soloist of the Krakow Opera, where she’s performed in many roles among which the most important are: the title character in the Cinderella, the Princess in the Soldier’s History, the title character in the Snow White and in the Peter and the Wolf, the Black Woman/White Womanin the Glances, the Friend in the Wayward Daughter. In 2013, she was nominated by journalists and the audience to the Krakow Operas Best Dancer Award in the After Five Years Contest organised by the Opera.

 

Since 2011, she has been associated with the Castle Opera in Szczecin Ballet. She danced, among others, as: the Fairy in Cinderella (music: Sergei Prokofiev, chor. Victor Litvinov, the Mouse Queen in the Nutcracker (music: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, chor. Karol Urbański), Fire in The Magic of Spells (chor. Franz Huyer), Micaela in the Carmen Suite within the ballet evening entitled The Shades of Passion (music: Rodion Szczedrin, chor. Jacek Tyski), Leoska in the Story of Sin (music: Lukasz Niepołomski, chor. Karol Urbański), Red Queen in the Alice in Wonderland (music: Przemysław Zych, chor. Jacek Tyski), she also dance the Eastern Dance in the Nutcracker.

 

In the 2015/2016 season she performed as Annymiggela in the Witch-hunt directed by Cathy Marston. For this performance, Polish Theatre Journal has announced Cichy-Szromnik as best actress in a leading female role among Szczecin theatres in the 2015/2016 season. In the 2016/2017 season she performed as Christiane T. in We Children From Bahnhof ZOO based on the book of the same title, comprising interviews gathered and edited by Kai Herman and Horst Rieck. We Children From Bahnhof ZOO at the Castle Opera in Szczecin was directed by Robert Glumbek renowned choreographer renowned in Poland and abroad. Her performance as Christiane T. received high acclaim among theatre critics. In 2017, she was awarded the Gloria Artis Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture, granted by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

 

Since 2001 she has also been continuously working as a teacher. She has cooperated with the Krakow Dance Academy (classical dance classes), conducted workshops in the Ballet Studio at the Krakow Opera, and worked as a coach at the Korona Sports Club in Cracow. Since 2012 she has been working as teacher at the State Ballet School in Szczecin as well as a pedagogue and consultant in the Folk Song and Dance Ensemble Szczecinianie.
