Generation After Warsaw showcase of Polish theatre and dance artists

Generation After is an intense presentation of new trends on the Polish theatre and dance scene, and a new school of artistic thought. The event, organised by the Nowy Theatre and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute along with their Warsaw-based partners, will take place on 23-25 February 2017.

From the organisers:

The Polish stage is undergoing a generational change. Young artists with radical new approaches to artistic expression are making their statement. The dance scene is growing, sparking discussion on the need to redefine the role of theatre as a medium. Generation After emerged in the wake of disappointment with neo-liberal and liberal illusions, during a deep crisis of democracy and as a result of failed trust in political, social and economic institutions ? a period that can be likened to an after-party after a lousy night, a big hangover. In this context, art becomes a vehicle for exploring new solutions. Given the temporary exhaustion of the critical function of art, in an era of post-truth, the highly personalised productions of young artists seem particularly relevant.

As part of the event, the organisers will present the latest pieces of such artists as Michał Borczuch, Mădălina Dan, Katarzyna Kalwat, Anna Karasińska, Ramona Nagabczyńska, Ania Nowak, Magdalena Ptasznik, Paweł Sakowicz, Agata Siniarska, Anna Smolar, Maria Stokłosa, Karol Tymiński, Wojtek Ziemilski, Maria Zimpel, Marta Ziółek.

The list of Generation After partners includes representatives of festivals and theatre and dance institutions from Europe, Asia and America, including Théâtre de Li?ge, Onassis Cultural Center, Center for New Performance w Calarts, Théâtre de l?Odéon, Hebbel um Uffer, Under The Radar NYC, Ruhrtriennale, Emilia Romagna Teatro, SIFA Singapore International Festival of Arts, Festival Transamériques, Festival d?Automne ? Paris, and a score of independent curators.
