The 9th edition of the Gdańsk Dance Festival held under motto ?Soma et Anima? (Body and Soul) will have its opening on June 7 in Club Żak with two premieres. The first premiere, entitled KaruzeJa, will be performed by the Baltic Opera dancers: Bartek Kondracki, Sayaki Haruna-Kondracka, Agnieszka Wojciechowska, Marianna Młynarska, Roberto Tallarigo, Michał Zelent. The second premiere, entitled Motus Animi Continuus and directed by Ewa Wycichowska, performed by well known and experienced dancers: Małgorzata Matuszewska, Agnieszka Noster, Iwona Olszowska, Jacek Krawczyk, Krzysztof Raczkowski.

The Festival will last until 16 June and the organisers invite the audience to experience extraordinary dance performances from Israel, Germany, Belgium and Hungary. This year, the Festival will feature dance performances that are visually stunning, highly dynamic and aesthetically attractive. In the Rite of Spring by Orly Portal Dance Company from Israel, the classical narrative will be presented through the lens of oriental dance technique, with references to aesthetics of Pina Bausch. In Post Anima, artists from Opinion Public Company will show an eye-catching interdisciplinary performance that makes use of dance techniques corresponding with those of Béjart, extraordinary circus stunts and multimedia devices. Pink Mama Theatre, will present their most recent performance entitled Fashion, inspired by the life and work of recently departed Karl Lagerfeld.

Gdańsk Dance Festival was the place where two dancers, Rita Góbi ? one of the most interesting young Hungarian artists and Ruri Mito ? Japanese dancer and winner of the Solo Dance Contest 2017, have met and decided to cooperate. Fascinated by each other?s art and the similarity of body structure they ventured together on an artistic journey that bore the fruit of Freestyle. This performance will be presented on 15 June, within the framework of the Festival?s ?Hungarian Day?. The ?Hungarian Day? will feature also Rita Gobi?s solo entitled Volitant and The Station byFerenc Fehér and David Mikó. The Festival caters also for the needs of the youngest audiences and invites them for the dance performance brought to Gdańsk by Teatr Novy Ruch.

The Festival will also feature the 10th edition of the international dance competition ? Solo Dance Contest 2019. This year, 75 solo dance performances from all over the world were submitted. Applicants include winners of both Polish and foreign prestigious contemporary dance competitions. 25 dancers (from Poland, Italy, India, Hungary, Ukraine, Spain, Israel) were qualified by for the competition and will be judged by an international Jury comprising: Magdalena Reiter ? dancer (former member of Dada von Bzdül?w Theatre, who has been running her theatre in Slovenia for many years), founder and artistic director of the international dance workshops VIBRA; Marie Kinsky ? curator, teacher and graduate of the Sorbonne University (Paris), who currently works in the Czech Republic; Guy Cools ? dance critic, producer and playwright; Peter Svenzon ? composer and choreographer of the famous Art of Spectra; Rodolpho Leoni ? professor of choreography, who, in his youth, founded the first Brazilian contemporary dance group. The Contest includes 3 prizes awarded by the Jury: first prize – 3,000 Euro, second prize – 2,000 Euro and third prize – 1,000 Euro and the Audience Prize.
