International Ballet Festival ?Dance Open? in Saint Petersburg invited the Polish National Ballet to present Krzysztof Pastor?s The Tempest. The performance will be presented at the Alexandrinsky Theatre on 19 April.

This year marks the 16th edition of the International Ballet Festival ?Dance Open?. The esteemed festival presents the latest choreographic trends in Russian and global ballet. This year?s edition is held on 13-24 April at the famous Alexandrinsky Theatre, home to the Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theatre. Apart from the Polish National Ballet, the festival will feature presentations by the Batsheva Dance Company of Telaviv, the Nederlands Dans Theater of the Hague, as well as the Russian ballet companies of the Perm and Yekaterinburg opera theatres. The festival will conclude with the international World Ballet Stars Gala.

Krzysztof Pastor?s The Tempest premiered at the Nederlands Dans Theater in the Hague in 2014, but it was its 2016 Warsaw production that was invited to this year?s edition of the International Ballet Festival ?Dance Open?. The cast of the Petersburg presentation includes Yuka Ebihara (Miranda), Vladimir Yaroshenko (Prospero), Maksim Woitiul (Ferdinand), Patryk Walczak (Ariel), Paweł Koncewoj (Caliban), and a guest performance by the Iranian instrumentalist Abbas Bkhtiari as Old Prospero. The gala concluding the festival will feature a performance by Dawid Trzensimiech, first soloist of the Polish National Ballet, who, together with Melissa Hamilton of the Royal Ballet, will perform a duo from Asphodel Meadows by the British choreographer Liam Scarlett.
