Renata Piotrowska-Auffret and Paweł Sakowicz among AEROWAVES twenty priority artists in 2019

Aerowaves is a European Network of dance specialists which supports young choreographers, enabling them to present their performances at international stages. Every year, the members of Aerowaves convene to select the most interesting choreographic submissions by young dance artists appointed as ?priority artists/companie?. Having counted the votes cast in the final round of this year?s session, the jury selected the group of the 2017 Aerowaves priority artists. This year?s list, dubbed the Aerowaves Twenty19, includes two artsits from Poland: Renata Piotrowska-Auffret (second selection) with her piece The pure gold is seeping out of me, and Paweł Sakowicz (Jumpcore). The presentations of Aerowaves Twenty19 artists will be held at the Spring Forward dance festival (5-7 April 2019, La Briqueterie, Val-de-Marne near Paris).

To many women the desire to give birth to a child seems self-evident. It is strong and beyond any doubt. What if this desire is rejected, while at the same time being subjected to legal categories? In her new piece Wycieka ze mnie samo [I Leak Pure Gold] Renata Piotrowska-Auffret explores this very notion, based on both her personal experience and the narratives of other women, following the female desire to have children through a network of reproduction policies, various promises, ideologies and attempted exploitation, while at the same time examining the relations between private and professional life.

How much do we invest in work and life? What is the value of what we produce and reproduce to satisfy our personal desires? And what about at work, in art? How far can we go? And why?

Jumpcore

It is not entirely clear whether Fred Herko had planned to conclude his intimate performance with suicide. He took a bath, played the recording of Mozart?s Coronation Mass, and began to dance naked in his friend?s living room. Several times, he found himself dancing near the open window. At the end of Sanctus, Herko took a run-up and leaped through the window of the apartment on the fifth floor of New york?s Cornelia Street. After all, every ballet dancer has the impression they are able to fly, an impression which comes fleetingly true as they hang in mid-air for a second while jumping up.
