On Friday, April 5th, in La Briqueterie in Val-de-Marne near Paris, Spring Forward festival will kick off. The festival is organised by Aerowaves ? a European network of dance experts who support young choreographers by giving them the opportunity to present their performances on international stages. Spring Forward?s audience comprises mainly curators and festival selectors. The festival is accompanied by the Springback Academy ? dance criticism workshops that are being organised since 2014. This year, Teresa Fazan who writes for taniecpolska.pl, will take part in the workshops.

During the three-day event (5-7April) all of this year’s priority artists will present their performances. There are two Polish artists among the 20 chosen for the Spring Forward: Renata Piotrowska-Auffret (for the second time) with her performance The Pure Gold is Seeping Out Of Me and Pawel Sakowicz with Jumpcore. Both performances will be presented on Saturday (April 6th).

About the performances:

The Pure Gold is Seeping Out Of Me

For many women, the desire to give birth seems obvious. What if, however, this desire is impossible to fulfil, if it is restricted by legal regulations and restrictions? In her new work, The Pure Gold is Seeping Out Of Me, Piotrowska-Auffret explores this area. The artist relies both on her personal experience and on other women?s narratives. She examines this female yearning through a network of reproduction policies, numerous promises and attempts to exploit it and looks at the relationship between personal and professional life.

How much do we invest in work and life? What value do attach to what we produce and reproduce in order to fulfil our personal desires? How does it differ at work and in art? How far can we go? And why?

It is not entirely clear if Fred Herko planned to finish his intimate performance with a suicide death. He took a bath, turned on Mozart?s Coronation Mass and began to dance naked in his friend?s living room. He approached an open window several times. When Sanctus resounded, he ran and jumped out the window of the apartment on the fifth floor of New York?s Cornelia Street. Ballet dancers are said to believe they can fly. And indeed, suspended for a second in a jump, they do.
