?Solo Dance Contest 2019? is an international contest for a short contemporary dance solo. The Contest will be held during 11. Gdansk Dance Festival between 10-14th June 2019. For four days, the audience will have the opportunity of watching professional dancers and dance school students perform their solos. The Jury will first choose the finalists, and then on the 14th June the winners will be announced. In the Contest there are to be 3 prizes: 1st prize: 3.000 EUR, 2nd prize: 2.000 EUR and 3rd prize: 1.000 EUR. Also theaudience will have a chance to choose their favourite solo and appoint the audience award.

 

The Jury of the ?Solo Dance Contest 2019? is composed of contemporary dance artists and experts in the field of contemporary dance that were invited by Club Żak.

 

 

Jury:

 

 

Guy Cools ? dance dramatist. In the past worked as a dance critic, curator and dance promotor in Flanders. He currently works mainly as producer contributing to the work of such choreographers as: Koen Augustijnen (BE), Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (BE), Dani?le Desnoyers (CA), Lia Haraki (CY), Christopher House (CA), Akram Khan (UK), Arno Schuitemaker (NL), and Stephanie Thiersch (DE). His most recent publications include The Ethics of Art: ecological turns in the performing arts, co-edited with Pascal Gielen (Valiz, 2014); In-between Dance Cultures: on the migratory artistic identity of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan (Valiz, 2015) and Imaginative Bodies, dialogues in performance practices (Valiz, 2016).

 

Maria Kinsky ? dancer, teacher and producer. After her studies at the French Conservatory of Dance, she graduated from the Paris Sorbonne University. She regularly teaches contemporary dance and uses her skills in movement analysis in assisting theatre directors and choreographers in Paris, Prague and Brno. She is a certified Feldenkrais technique teacher and a founder and director of SE.S.TA ? the first centre for choreographic research in Czech Republic.

 

Rodolpho Leoni ? dancer, choreographer, founder of one of the first contemporary dance companies in Brazil. In 1985 he received a grant that enabled him to enter Martha Graham Centre for Contemporary Dance in New York. Since 1990 he continues to work in Europe where he founded Rodolpho Leoni Dance Company. For choreography Speak he received the German Producer Award for Choreography (DPC 2005/2006). He has created numerous choreographies for various dance companies including the Ballet Nürnberg, the Tanzkompanie St. Gallen, and the Tanztheater Bremen. He regularly works as main teacher for various dance companies and in 2006 he was appointed a professor of contemporary dance and dance choreography at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.

 

Magdalena Reiter ? dancer and choreographer; graduated from the State Ballet School in Gdansk and P.A.R.T.S. Since a few years she has been working and creating in Ljubljana, while being also a founder and artistic director of international VIBRA workshops. She collaborated with and created woks for operas and theatres, and for many years was a member of the Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre based in Gdansk.

 

Peter Svenzon ? composer, choreographer and director of the Art of Spectra. His works were presented in such venues as: Gothenburg Opera, Ballet Chemnitz, Ballet Greifswald, Norrdans and Dansens Hus. He also composes stage movement for theatres and as a music composer he creates music for theatre and film. In 2019 he celebrates the 20th anniversary of artistic work.

 

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2019. Important! The date of receiving the application by Club Żak shall apply.
