For the first time in the theater’s over 50-year history, the Polish Dance Theater is visiting South Korea, where it will present the performance 45 choreographed by Jacek Przybyłowicz.
On September 8, the theater will perform at the Seoul International Dance Festival SIDance, one of the largest international festivals promoting contemporary dance and performance art in Korea, a pioneer in supporting the mobility of Korean dancers and building a network of relationships abroad. On September 11, the Polish Dance Theater will present 45 at the Daegu International Dance Festival, an interdisciplinary center for cultural exchange, connecting artists from different countries and performance fields.
The performance 45 choreographed by Jacek Przybyłowicz, was created in the context of the 45th anniversary of the Polish Dance Theater, shows the stories of young dancers, touching, in a symbolic dimension, on the subject of community, united by teamwork, as well as a common, conscious decision to choose art as a way of life.
It has been presented many times abroad and in Poland – in Cēsis Concert Hall in Kieś in Latvia, The State Philharmonics Sibiu in Romania, during the 23rd Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival in Limassol in Cyprus and during the 24th International Dance Theater Meetings in Lublin in 2020 and online during the jubilee, 40th Scena Tańca Studio in Warsaw. Its television premiere took place on April 28, 2020 on TVP Kultura. The performance in Korea is the first presentation of this performance in Asia.
In September 2024, the Polish Dance Theater will perform in Korea once again, this time in Cheonan City at the Grand Hall of the Cheonan Art Center during the opening ceremony of the Korea International Contemporary Dance Competition. On September 22, they will present The Hat choreographed by Jo Strømgren and Harvest directed by Igor Gorzkowski and choreographed by Iwona Pasińska.
The project “Dance Odysseys. Polish Dance Theater’s tour of the world’s stages”, as part of which the tour is taking place, was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund within the framework of the Promotion of Polish Culture Abroad program and from the funds of the Local Government of the Wielkopolska Region under the “Ambassador of Culture” program.
