Poland’s Viktoria Nowak, graduate of the Olga Sławska-Lipczyńska Ballet School in Poznań, has won the 14th Eurovision Young Dancers. The international finale of the contest was held on Friday, 19 June, at the New Theatre (Nové divadlo) in Pilsen, the Czech Republic. To win Victoria danced Piece in old style, a choreography created by Jacek Przybyłowicz especially for the occasion to music by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, performed in a group choreography, and came out victorious from a final face-off with Slovenia’s Staša Tušar. All in all, Victoria beat nine contestants from Slovenia, Norway, Slovakia, Malta, the Netherlands, Albania, Sweden, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The jury, including Zenaida Yanowsky, Jiří Bubeníček, and Alexandra “Spicey” Landé, awarded Viktoria the prize of 7000 euro. Moreover, thanks to the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw, she will participate in workshops at the Centre National de la Danse and L’École de Danse, a prestigious school operating at the Paris Opera.

About Viktoria Nowak:

 

Graduate of the Olga Sławska Ballet School in Poznań. She studied for her dance diploma with Mirosław Różalski and Krystyna Frąckowiak.

Eurovision Young Dancers is one of the most prestigious international dance events. Its history goes back to 1985. Poland has hosted the contest three times to-date: in 1997 the it took place at the Music Theatre in Gdaynia; in 2005 ? the Teatr Wielki ? Polish National Opera (Warsaw); and in 2013 ? the Baltic Opera and Baltic dance Theatre in Gdańsk.

 

The Institute of Music and Dance is a co-organiser of the Polish finals of Eurovision Young Dancers ? Young Dancer of the Year ? together with the Ministry of Culture and National heritage and TVP Kultura, Polish national broadcaster’s culture channel.
