About the performance:
If departing or, more specifically, if the movement is the refusal of narrative, avoided by the author and consequently by the viewer. One is confronted with a work asking to be experienced and not resolved. Our lifestyle practices shape our thinking. The purpose of the work arose from questioning the modes of reception and execution, too often framed within rational and spatial comfort zones. A place where the body, movement, space, sound and plasticity merge. Where each of these elements acts in inter-independence, summing up an action.
The artist:
My aim has been to bring my performative skills acquired as a dancer in contemporary dance and alley them to my experiences in art galleries as an author and performer of live installations. Given the nature of my field of research and interest, each presentation is subjected to a reorganization, due to the morphology of each architectural space. Tuning into slight notions of site specific, in the measure of how space is viewed and used. The work is also composed upon notions of being a triptych. The choreographic elements in the triptych evoke the archaic, the old, past figures, the simplicity or absurdity of the present, while projecting the construction into making a future figure for ourselves. To some extent, the actions and patterns of inner insights are communicated in a woven dialogue with the actual social sphere.

Vania Rovisco is a visual performing artist. She attended a course in Contemporary Dance for Interpreters (1998 -2000) in Forum Dança, Lisbon, and was a guest student at Ex.e.r.c.e. Montpelier in 2001. From 2001?2007 Rovisco worked with choreographer Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, interpreting in various pieces, as improvisation projects. In 2004 she began directing movement for theatre pieces, with directors Jo?o Brites, Gonçalo Amorim, Gonçalo Waddington/Carla Maciel. She resided in Berlin in 2005-2012. With musician Jochen Arbeit and performance artist Abraham Hurtado, Rovisco launched an artistic network Aktuelle Architektur der Kultur (AADK), active in Germany, Portugal and Spain. She started to realise her own working processes in art galleries in 2006, in the form of live installations (temporary placement of the body in time and space).Her interest in exploring improvisation surfaced through music (playing the tenor horn), and using video has helped her construct spatial notions or visual dynamics departing from the sense of the body into visual landscapes. Rovisco frequently directs workshops for professionals and amateurs, and regularly assumes the role of a coach in creative processes. Since 2008 she has created events focusing on performance or live installations. In 2012, she was invited to curate a performance for the Arpad Szenes / Vieira da Silva Foundation, Lisbon. 2013 saw the premiere of her solo work for stage, The Archaic, Looking Out, The Night Knight. She currently lives in Lisbon.

In Between Festivals is not just a festival. It is a year-long series of concerts and contemporary dance shows. The participants include some of the stars of Berlin?s alternative scene, many of them performing in Wrocław for the first time. In the first half of the year, Hermann Heisig, Rafał Dziemidok and Ewa Garniec, Maria F. Scaroni, Vania Rovisco and Jule Flierl will present their dance productions. These events will be accompanied by talks hosted by Ania Nowak, Agata Siniarska and Karolina Wycisk. In Between Festivals is part of the Wrocław-Berlin collaboration project initiated by the Zukunft Berlin Foundation and the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016. Project partners include Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Hewlett Packard, Kulturprojekte Berlin, Luneta, Mediapool and Mica Moca. The project is financed by the European Commission and the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie in Berlin.
