Warsaw/Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera: Polish National Ballet’s “Notre Chopin”: Concerto in E minor – chor. Liam Scarlett/ Concerto in F minor – chor. Krzysztof Pastor

27 April 2019 | 19:00 | Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera | Warsaw

The director of the Polish National Ballet, Krzysztof Pastor, is pleased to present new choreographic interpretations of Chopin’s two piano concertos, performed as part of the ballet night Notre Chopin. Collaborating with Pastor will be the esteemed English choreographer Liam Scarlett, who has created over a dozen original choreographies for the world famous Royal Ballet in London. Scarlett has also worked with other reputable companies in the United States, Japan, Norway, and New Zealand, earning a reputation of one of the most creative ballet minds of his time. Scarlett accepted the invitation to work in Warsaw particularly because of his personal history with Chopin, whose music had inspired the choreographer for a long time, even though he had never before referred to it directly in his choreographic practice. Scarlett eagerly agreed to contribute a new choreographic rendition of Chopin’s Concerto in E minor for the Polish National Ballet. The second piece presented as part of Notre Chopin is Concerto in F minor choreographed by Krzysztof Pastor, whom Polish music has often directed towards poetical references to national history, as has been the case with Pastor’s ballet And the Rain Will Pass… featuring the music of Mikołaj Henryk Górecki. Similarly to his previous piece, Pastor has been working on his latest ballet together with the dramaturge and historian Daniel Przastek.

Wrocław/Wrocław Opera House: “Card Game / The Rite of Spring” – chor. Jacek Przybyłowicz / Ivgi&Greben - Premiere

27 April 2019 | 19:00 | Wrocław Opera | Wroclaw | Premiere

Wrocław Opera House invites for the premiere of two ballet performances Card Game / The Rite of Spring with the music composed by Igor Stravinsky. Although both performances differ in content, they do have one aspect in common – each of them was very badly received and turned out to be a failure at the time of premiere, and still, both of them managed to stand the test of time. Initially discarded, after some time The Rite of Spring started being considered as a masterpiece that forever changed music and dance history. The oncoming Wrocław premiere of Card Game / The Rite of Spring links both music compositions with the choreography of Jacek Przybyłowicz (Card Game) and Ivgi&Greben duo (The Rite of Spring), in a very unique way. As a result, the audience will have an opportunity to experience performances having different aesthetics that enable Wrocław’s corps the ballet to embody and present two dance styles that require different technical and theatrical abilities.
