In the recent years, Artur Bieńkowski has collaborated as a dancer, choreographer and educator with the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań, ROZBARK Theatre in Bytom, Pink Mama Theatre in Bern (Switzerland), and the Musical Theater in Gdynia, among others. As a dancer, he has performed in choreographies created by the likes of Ohad Naharin, Ewa Wycichowska, Cecilia Moisio, Uri Ivgi, Johan Greben, Anna Piotrowska, Nadar Rosano, Jo Strømgren, Karol Miękina, Paweł Malicki, Andrzej Adamczak, Karina Adamczak-Kasprzak, Agata Ambrozińska-Rachuta, Helena Ganjalyan, Paulina Wycichowska, Slawek Bendrat, and many others.
Bieńkowski’s choreographies have been recognized with numerous awards, including at the 3…2…1…DANCE! competition, the Avant Art. Festival in Wrocław, and the Gdańsk Dance Festival (Solo Dance Contest). He has presented choreographic projects in Poland, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Hungary and Cyprus.
He collaborates with non-governmental organizations that help advance the art of dance and classical music, developing and coordinating national and international artistic and educational projects addressed to children and adults alike, as well as persons from underprivileged backgrounds. Some of those projects include Grajfka – Upper Silesian contemporary dance, Women in classical music, BodySpaceParty, and Folksy classics. He also holds workshops and trainings for dancers.
Bieńkowski regularly participates in contemporary dance, improvisation and somatic practice trainings. He teaches contemporary dance and improvisation in Poland and the US. Delving into somatic practices has changed the nature of his initial interest in dance theater, redefining his approach to body and dance, as well as his understanding of human movement. He prefers to call his productions choreographic projects, thus granting full autonomy to dance and choreography.
He is a recipient of scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Institute of Music and Dance (Career Transition Programme for Dancers).
