Anna Królica is a dance critic, historian, theorist, and curator. She wrote the first book about the recent history of contemporary dance in Poland,  Sztuka do odkrycia. Szkice o polskim tańcu (An Art to Discover. Essays on Polish Dance;  Tarnów, 2011) and a collection of interviews with you Polish choreographers, Pokolenie Solo (The Solo Generation; Cricoteka, Kraków, 2013).

 

She was a member of the Artistic Commission of the Polish Dance Platform in 2008 and 2012. From 2011 to 2013 she chaired the first Programme Board for Dance of the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw. She was also a coordinator of the 1st Dance Congress in 2011.In 2012 she received an artistic scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

 

Since 2011 she has been a leading lecturer of the project Dancing parabolas: Youth in Dance Theatre carried out by the Podlasie Dance Association and Marshal of the Podlasie Voivodeship.  

 

Since 2012 she has been working with Karolina Garbacik and Joanna Chitruszko as a curator of the Kalejdoskop Festival in Białystok. In 2015 she co-curated, toegterj with Paweł Łyskawa and Eryk Makohon the project Goodbye Superman. A Man in Polish Choreography, which corresponded to her earlier project Portraits. Women in Polish Choreography hosted by the Old Town Centre of Youth Culture in Kraków, where Królica has been organising the Contemporary Dance Stage since 2014.

 

In 20062011 she co-founded(together with Witold Mrozek) and edited an opinion-forming website nowytaniec.pl/danceinpoland.eu. In 2010 she was the manager of the project Polish Dance Database NowyTaniec.PL, supported by the National Centre for Culture as part of the programme Education and Culture Research: An Observatory of Culture. She co-organised the conference Together or separately Between Polish dance and theatre in cooperation with the Raszewski Theatre Institute. 

 

She is also a dance promoter. She contributed extensively to the Agoras collection of DVDs and texts Ballet and Dance; organised workshops for critics, lectures, and the first competition for the best thesis on dance in association with the National Centre for Culture. 

 

She has written for Didaskalia, Teatr, Konteskty, www.dwutygodnik.com, and www.kulturaenter.pl. In her work, she concentrates mainly on Polish contemporary dance: both the current developments and its recent history (late 1980s and early 1990s). She published, among other works, an essay on Wojciech Misiuros Teatr Ekspresji and an extensive interview with Iwona Olszowska. Moreover, she is interested in relations between Polish dance and theatre mainly Tadeusz Kantor, but also Henryk Tomaszewski’s Mime Theatre. She is also an expert on German dance and theatre. She has written about Pina Bausch, Sasha Waltz, but also Oskar Schlemmer and representatives of the pre-war avant-garde.
