Anna Maria Krysiak dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, graduate of the State Ballet School in Poznań.
In 1990-1992 Krysiak worked at the Stanisław Moniuszko Wielki Theatre in POznań. From 1992 through 2005 she was a dancer with the Silesian Dance Theatre. She performed to choreographies of such artists as Jacek Łumiński, Anna Sokolov, Conrad Drzewiecki, Avi Kaiser (Batsheva Dance Company), Melissa Monteros, Marusz Olszewski, Paul Clayden (DV8), Mark Haim, David Dorman, Stephan Brinkman (Pina Bausch Theatre). She also participated in a Battery Dance Company (USA) project featuring the Cracow Klezmer Band.
Krysiaks collaborations as pedagogue include the Ballet School in Bytom, Swarthmore College, Salt Lake City University, Mary University and the University of Calgary. She has conducted contemporary dance workshops at numerous festivals in Poland, Europe, India, Canada and the USA. In 2000, she was awarded the Karol Szymanowski medal on the 200th anniversary of Polish ballet for outstanding contributions to the development of dance, presented by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
From 2004 through 2008 she collaborated with the W&M Physical Theatre (Canada). In 2006-2008 she worked as choreographer and dancer at the Theatre Junction at the Grand in Calgary, Canada.
Since 2009, she has worked as an independent choreographer, dancer and contemporary dance pedagogue, contributing to artistic projects in Poland and abroad. Krysiaks regular collaborations with theatre directors have copiously added to the range of her artistic language.
Krysiak choreographed Apie mus for theAura Dance Theatre (Kaunas, Lithuania). She collaborated with Mariusz Treliński in his interpretation of King Roger and performed in The Flying Dutchman (both produced by the Polish National Opera).
She also performed in Between and Slow Man (both directd by Maja Kleczewska), Medea and Moby Dick (directed by Barbara Wysocka) and danced in Anna Godowskas Barocco, Tomasz Wygodas Melancholia bez Villas (Nowy Theatre in Łódź, 2015), and The Damnation of Faust (directed by Maciej Prus and choreographed by Jacek Przybyłowicz).
Since 2014, she has collaborated as choreographer with the director Wojtek Klemm. Their productions include Antigone (Lucerne Theatre), They Shoot Horses, Dont They (Horace Mccoy Harvard University), and Saint Joan of the Stockyards (Bogusławski Theatre, Kalisz). She also danced and assisted Jan Komasa in his Ksenofonia (Malta Festival Poznań 2016).
Krysiaks choreographic style is based on many years of experience at the Silesian Dance Theatre and her collaborations with numerous pedagogues and choreographers in Europe, Canada, the UK and the USA. Krysiaks technique results from her research on the capacities of the human body. She emphasises the use of natural impulses and body weight, free-flowing energy and the utilization of momentum and suspension, including the harmony between balance and inertia.
