Michał Przybyła he graduated from the BA studies at the Dance Department of the University of Humanities and Economics in Łódź. He also studied at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań Interactive Media and Performance Department. He completed the MASA programme organized by the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel and served an internship in the KCDC.
From 2016 to 2020, he worked as a dancer at the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań and together with the company, he participated in the International Dance Theatre Festival in Lublin and the International Art Festival in Shanghai, China. In the Polish Dance Theatre, he had a chance to work with such artists as Yoshiko Waki, Rami Beer, Jo Strmgren, Maciej Kuźmiński, Ewa Wycichowska, Jacek Przybyłowicz, Aleksandra Dziurosz, Marta Ziółek and Tomasz Bazan.
He directed and choreographed the performance MOVE do mnie in Łódź, created together with the Urban Movement group in 2016 (premiere in Arterion Studio in Łódź with the support of the Academy of Humanities and Economics). In 2018, he initiated the project entitled Inicjatywa żywa (Live initiative), aimed at dancers and people with physical disabilities, realised in the Pavilion in Poznań. He also created choreography for the theatre performance Ausgang, directed by Mirek Kaczmarek at the Dramatyczny Theatre in Wałbrzych.
Together with Dominik Więcek, he founded the informal creative collective Direct Message Collective and the two artists co-created Bromance (Przybyła was responsible for the concept, direction, choreography and performance, 2018) as part of the residence New Generation, organized by the Scena Robocza in Poznań. Bromance won the 1st prize in the 2nd edition of The Best OFF Competition for the Best Independent Theatre Performance. The piece was also granted an honorable mention during the 54th edition of the international theatre festival KONTRAPUNKT. Przybyła also co-created the performance/installation Animalia (2019), which was developed by the Direct Message Collective as part of the Open Pavilion in Poznań.
He participated twice in Vertigo masterclass workshops in Israel, organized by Vertigo Dance Company, and in Gaga Lab, organised by Batsheva Dance Company.
In 2020 he received an artistic scholarship from the City of Cracow and was also a artist-in-residence at the Center for Theatre and Dance in Warsaw. Currently, together with Dominik Więcek, he is also a resident of TanzFaktura in Köln (Germany) within the INKUBATOR 2020 programme.
Przybyła was twice granted the scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. He holds the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for the year 2020.
