Sonia Nieśpiałowska-Owczarek is a culture manager, curator, producer, and president of the Kino Tańca Foundation. She graduated from the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw. In 200206 she organised the Kino Tańca International Festival in Łódź. She was behind the New Horizons of Dance series of film screenings at the 7th Era New Horizons International Film Festival, as well as curator of the dance film showcase and installation Mirror Me by Shona McCullagh (New Zealand) presented at the 8th edition of the festival. She is a producer of the Sic! International Dance Improvisation Festival in Warsaw, whose artistic director is Ilona Trybuła, and which takes place at the Wytwórnia Theatre and the Centre for Contemporary Art. To date the Sic! festival has welcomed: Chanti Wadge, Rafał Dziemidok, Leszek Bzdyl, Jacek Owczarek, Krzysztof skolimowski and Pracownia Fizyczna, David Zambrano, Magpie Music & Dance Company, Melba Kolektyw: Ilona Trybuła, Maria Stokłosa, Rafał Dziemidok, Dominik Strycharski, Maria Mavridou, Julyen Hamilton, Les SlovaKs Dance Collective, Makiko Ito, Benno Voorham, Andrew de Lotbinire Harwood, Daniel Lepkoff, as well as Boris Charmatz and Médéric Collignon, Marcin Lenarczyk / dj Lenar, Lesław Dobrucki and Ewa Garniec. Nieśpiałowska-Owczarek collaborates with Pracownia Fizyczna in Łódź and the Połczyn Dance Festival, whose artistic director is Dawid Lorenc.

 

Nieśpiałowska-Owczarek works at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź. She has produced the following exhibitions: Political / Minimal (curator: Klaus Bisenbach), The Parallax and the Gaze of Zbigniew Rogalski and Zorka Wollny Ophelias. Iconography of Madness (curator: Jarosław Lubiak), Emoticon. Robert Rumas / Piotr Wyrzykowski (curator: Maria Morzuch), Robert Morris. Notes on Sculpture (curator: Susanne Titz), Teresa Żarnower (18971949). An Artist of the End of Utopia (curators: Milada Ślizińska, Andrzej Turowski).

 

Together with Katarzyna Słoboda, she curated the exhibition You come, we’ll show you what we do. On dance improvisation (7 June20 October 2013) at ms2, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, which featured performance actions by: Ray Chung, Sebastian Flegiel, Natalia Iwaniec, Witold Jurewicz, Dawid Lorenc, Marcin Masecki, Yaniv Mintzer, Suavas Lewy and Piotr Gwadera, Lisa Nelson and Scott Smith, Iwona Olszowska and EST / Hurtownia Ruchu, Jacek Owczarek and Pracownia Fizyczna, Jan Peszek, Michał Ratajski, Paweł Szamburski and Patryk Zakrocki / SzaZa, Ilona Trybuła and Marcin Lenarczyk, David Zambrano and Peter Jasko / Les Slovaks Dance Collective, Aleksandra Borys, Marysia Zimpel and Justyna Calińska, among others.

 

Also with Słoboda, Sonia Nieśpiałowska-Owczarek edited the anthology Przyjdźcie, pokażemy Wam co robimy. O improwizacji tańca (You come, we’ll show you what we do. On dance improvisation) published by Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź in 2013, in association with the Institute of Music and Dance in Warsaw. The anthology comprises contributions from: Michael Anker, Alain Badiou, Sally Banes, Curtis L.
