Sylwia Hefczyńska-Lewandowska – dancer, choreographer, teacher. Since 1995 a member of the Silesian Dance Theatre in Bytom. She graduated from the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław. In 2000 she received a certificate of professional dancer from Polish Stage Artists Association (ZASP). Since 2008 – Doctor of theatre studies. A lecturer and deputy dean at the Faculty of Dance Theatre/ the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Cracow. She regularly gives classes at International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom; as a teacher, she also collaborated with the State Ballet School in Bytom and Faculty of Theatre at Swarthmore College, USA.

As a dancer, Hefczyńska-Lewandowska is one of the most recognized figures of the Bytom group; it’s hard to imagine most of the Silesian Dance Theatre performances without her expressive “physical” style. She made her debut on the Bytom stage in Jacek Łumiński’s choreography Such nothing (premiere on 24 June 1995). After ten years of career, as one of the theatre’s pillars, she inaugurated the Silesian Dance Theatre Choreographic Laboratory with her own performance Senseless Dress. The performance started the series of choreographies combining her “physical” style with lyricism. As a choreographer, Hefczyńska-Lewandowska does not avoid stories – often limited to several scenes making up a performance. Expressive costumes, sets and stage props – often of a symbolic meaning – are an important element of her performances.
