Witold Jurewicz is a choreographer, educator and performer. He has created over 50 pieces for the Alter Dance Theatre in Kalisz, of which he is also the director. Between 1992 and 2008, he served as the artistic director of the International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz, one of the leading contemporary dance festivals in Poland. Over the past two decades, Jurewicz has regularly collaborated with dramatic theatre companies as choreographer and stage movement director. Some of these include the W. Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz, H. Modrzejewska Theatre in Legnica, Polski Theatre in Poznań, J. Słowacki Theatre in Cracow, S. Jaracz Theatre in Łódź, Powszechny Theatre and Nowy Theatre in Łódź, J. Osterwa Theatre in Gorzów Wielkopolski, and A. Mickiewicz Theatre in Częstochowa. He has also performed in the Schaeffer’s Era Festival project in Poland and abroad.
Since 2008, Jurewicz has been lecturing at the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, where he received his doctoral degree in 2012.
He has taught at contemporary dance festivals and workshops in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belarus, Russia, Israel, Sweden and Lithuania.
An author of contemporary dance and movement theory curricula, he is also the author of a movement technique using fulcrum and gravity work as a basis for movement consistent with individual motoric qualities.
