This weekend, the 8th Gdańsk Dance Festival will feature three Polish premieres at the Żak Club. On Friday 3 June at 7 pm, Joanna Nadrowska, Barbara Pędzich, Grażyna Słaboń and Dorota Zielińska from the Sopot Dance Theatre will present their performance Bright, or Dark. The performance describes human life as a constant tension between light and darkness, or a struggle between the urges of life and destruction. On the same night, at 8.30 pm, Wiola Fiuk, Patryk Gacki and Michał Łabuś will perform Refugees. Testigo documentary. The new performance by DzikiStyl Company touches upon an issue which has been stirring a lot of emotions in Europe in the last months: the fate of the refugees who flee their countries because of war or repressions, and travel thousands of kilometres in search of a better life.

On Saturday 4 June at 7 pm, the club will host the premiere of Renata Piotrowska-Auffret?s performance Common, with amazing air-filled installations dominating in the Suwnicowa Hall:

The audience may, above all, expect wonderful impressions, not only visual but also kinetic-sensory?, says Renata Piotrowska-Auffret. ?Though it might sound a bit abstract, we try to work with the air. We build a kind of a modern ritual, during which the air is not only a theme of the piece, but also an object of manipulation and exploration. We do it by working with the breath on the one hand and with the actual air around us on the other.
