My Tail and I is the latest production of the acclaimed independent dance collective Holobiont, comprised of Polish female artists working in the field of experimental choreography for families.

Addressed to families with children aged 3-6, the performance offers a humorous and young audience-friendly take on the history of evolution (with the human tailbone as one of its remnants.

During the event, the artists will invite the participant families to join in on a movement interplay with the performers and unleash the creative energy that often lies dormant in our tails.

About the authors:

The Holobiont Collective was created in 2017. It is made up of two artists, performer and choreographer Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska and theatrologist and choreographer Hanna Bylka-Kanecka. The collective’s area of interest is interdisciplinary multigenerational projects. Combining experimental dance, visual arts and music, the artists create interactive performances and conduct workshops aimed at families with children. All of the collective’s work is based on the assumption that every participant in a performance – regardless of age or experience – is a fully competent recipient of art. By attuning themselves to the creative and diverse involvement of the audience, the artists explore the possibilities of deepening long-term relationships through art.

Bożek-Muszyńska and Bylka-Kanecka made their debut on the children’s dance scene with the interactive performance DOOKOŁA/aRound (2017, Art Stations Foundation, Poznań). Their subsequent pieces include Moonlight (2018, Ochota Theater, Warsaw), _on_line__ (2018, Art Stations Foundation, Poznań), Where Shapes Have Necks (2019, Children’s Art Center, Poznań), My Tail and I (2021, Polish Theatre in Poznań, the performance was co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the PolandDances/Choreographic Residencies project, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage)..

The output of the Holobiont collective has been featured at some of the most important events and festivals promoting children’s art in Poland, including Sztuka Szuka Malucha, Malta Festival, Cracow Dance Festival, Studio Dance Stage, Little Warsaw Theatre Meetings, Theatre Carousel Festival, Korczak Festival, Teatr Polska, Stage For Dance, and Biennale of Art for Children.

In addition, the performance _on_line__ has been selected for presentation at the Small Dance Platform 2019 and the Little Warsaw Theatre Meetings. The performance was also voted the “Best Children’s Performance” in the “Najlepszy, najlepsza, nalepsi” summary of the 2018/2019 season, published by the “Teatr” monthly.
