Bytom: Anna Piotrowskas Transdyptyk to be premiered by dance theatre graduates

On Friday, 18 October (7 pm) final year students of the Dance Theatre Department in Bytom (ul. Piłsudskiego 24a), a division of the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Krakow (PWST), will premiere their graduation performance, Transdyptyk, directed and choreographed by Anna Piotrowska. The two-part piece is inspired by paintings of Jerzy Nowosielski. The reference is provided by the series of paintings Villa dei Misteri, a clear division into female and male performers, and an attempt to pinpoint gender features as social and cultural sex norms that clash in trans.

Piotrowska is interested in the relation between a painting and an experience of a theatre that is emotional, abstract and full of ambiguities which give rise to tensions and provoke one to give answers to unknown questions. Also inspiring is Nowosielski’s idea which “fascinates as shapes and imaginations known from inner reality suddenly come into existence, or move to a different sphere of existence. It’s an adventure of spiritual but also emotional character. It is as if we suddenly learnt that we could fly” (Interview with Agata Ławniczak on J. Nowosielski’s Still Life of 1958, “Odra”, nr 7-8, 1993)

Following the premiere, Transdyptyk will be presented in Bytom on 19-21October at 7 pm, as well as on 22, 24, 25 October at 6 pm, 12 o’clock and 7 pm, respectively. Then the performance will travel to Kraków to be presented at PWST on 28 October (7 pm).
