A dance performance of the Faculty of Dance Theatre will be premiered on Monday, 28 January, at. 7.00 pm in Bytom (Roman Catholic Parish of the Holy Trinity in Bytom, 1 Kwietniewskiego Street). It is a performance for 14 dancers, the fifth year students of the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Cracow/Faculty of Dance Theatre in Bytom. The choreography Presence of Presence/Obecność Obecności is to review their work of the past five years, being also their last group performance as students. Presence of Presence was inspired by Stabat Mater (dolorosa) by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Stabat Mater (dolorosa) means in Latin “The sorrowful mother stood” – and refers to the suffering of Mary after the crucifixion of Christ. It was written by Jacopone da Todi in the 13th century. It has been set to music by many composers, including Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

We live in the world of alienation and hurry. We can hardly stop as a society. We have no time for ourselves and for family and friends, just to simply be present. Lost in our daily life, material world, we forget the spirit – from heart and mind. The choreographer concealed “the sorrows of Mary after crucifixion of Christ” in the search for presence, the presence in: the moment, body and mind. It is so easy to be both together and far away of each other. It is so hard to be together, and the presence and strength of other human being may be so powerful. Lonely as stones. Weak in the strong illusion of rush and success.
